Bushmaster ACR, actually. My AR is on NFA paperwork as a SBR so I can't bring it just yet. Is it a Pelican 1700? I appreciate the offer, but I was also hoping to use the case once here as a way to secure it a little better than just laying on the closet floor.

I've got a pile of other long guns like a FN FAL, two AKs, a G3 clone, an MP5 clone... It's quite a logistical nightmare to move this stuff safely & legally across the country.

I think a 1750 goes way over the spec for carry-on. I have one of my own for a .308 precision rifle I had built.

 

Why can't you bring your ar, sbr or not I don't follow?

NFA reasons.

So once my AR is registered as an SBR, it's permanently an SBR even if I put a 16" barrel on it. This means that to move it across state lines I have to fill out an ATF form 5320 and send it in, stating that I am moving the NFA weapon(s) from Pennsylvania to Arizona as the result of a permanent change of address. Once that's approved I'm free to take it.

Has nothing to do with state or local legality, it's the feds who want their paperwork done.

Right now they are jammed with paperwork so lead times are long, plus my apartment will not be a permanent address, so I'm not messing with it yet.

 

Yah, I guess living in az you don't have to worry about all that, so never really paid attention to all the crazyness of moving it all. Good luck, sounds like fun then.

 

Yeah, I just sent my 5320 in for approval for a permanent change to bring my sbrs into AZ. I had one on a temp transportation approval which is good for 364 days but I think that expires this month. It didn't take that long to get it back from ATF last year.

Slap a long upper on the SBR, bring it in on that and convert it back when your fork for moving across state lines comes back.


I'll find the decision that says this is legal later if you remind me.

 

There was a decision on this like 3 years back....

 

I was unaware of that decision- if you could link it to me that would be great! I do have a 16" upper to shoot 5.56 out of, as my 8" barrel upper is 300 blackout.

In general I tend to take the most conservative possible interpretation because, well, the ATF will shoot your dog. Or your neighbor's dog if you don't have one. They'll find someones dog to shoot.

They also have a history of playing calvinball with what is and isn't legal at the drop of a hat. The whole Sig arm brace debacle comes to mind, plus various "double tap" or "bump fire" triggers and whatnot.
