Has this gotten rid of the "Gear hunting" that happens on the freeways?

Nope. I got the KD extra special sauce more money tune during one of the group tune days and the only thing it did was make off idle throttle response instantaneous. To the point where its just annoying. I honestly dont think it was worth the money. Didnt fix the gear hunting, didnt fix the terrible cruise control function, didnt correct my speedo, didnt feel like it added any power. All of those were things I thought it was going to do. If the dealership accidentally flashed me back to stock I wouldnt be mad about it and Id go get a tuner that can fix my speedo since that annoys me more than anything other than the gear hunting.

Oh I stopped keeping receipts long ago lol. But I do have both on my truck haha. 5.29 gears, the trd blower with smaller pulley, and then about 1k lbs of extra steel and giant tires to screw it all up

Not yet unfortunately. Its on the medium list. I’ll probably have a fullsize again by the time I get that far down the list though.

About to order the last few things I need for my front suspension rebuild. If anyone has some Bora .75" spacers by chance? Or a nice low mile set of lower control arms? I'd rather someone here got the money than Rock Auto or Mr. Bezos.

I keep hearing more about the OV Tune, is that something you offer? The OV Tune appears to handle the heat hunting and helps with throttle and the cruise control issue. DM if better to discuss.

Tune can’t fix the speedo. It’s a middle man module to fix it. hypertech or rough country module. Same parts. Just get the best priced.

OV Tune is different though. Im not sure if what the KD guys do changes anything versus a “canned” OV tune or if my perception is just off.

It’s really a gear issue, as gearing! Years ago I was hunting for the proper gear to install in gutless 2.7L. After sometime calling Toyota I was able to talk to an engineer Percy Chang that was close to retirement. His position with Toyota had him working on different projects per our conversation. I asked him why Toyota geared the trucks so tall was it for fuel economy? He said Oh No it’s the EPA and emissions. In a controlled environment vehicles are running in a simulated test. The lower the RPM’s the less emissions an vehicle engine will put out. So we have to try to get the engine to turn as slow as possible and still be drivable. So he said it’s the “Iron Hand of the EPA”. We talked for sometime he was very personable and forthcoming. He told me that he was close to retirement and gave me his personal cell number. He was hard to understand but very nice.

True, the KD guys are using OV tune as the tuning platform but are probably doing their own thing. I’ve still heard such mixed reviews about anyone using that platform over the last few years. I’d personally wait for HP Tuners to release support for 3rd gens. The progress and development on 2nd gens the last 2 years has been amazing. And when there’s a breakthrough on something new and exciting, the info is shared and you can update your tune whenever you want

@Atl-atl's post was regarding the KD Tune that @Edge48 is offering in Phoenix. @mOjO_Taco is asking about the OV tune. I have heard many phenomenal things about the OV Tune for these trucks, and a common theme is that they eliminate gear hunting, especially with overtaking on the freeway or when using ACC
