So teach me about knives please.
Waaayyy back in the 90s -yea, old, I know… I was gifted a Spyderco from my dad. Loved it! It’s blade was half smooth, half serrated. It came in handy like cutting seatbelts off people pinned in their cars… don’t ask.

what is the reasoning for the different blade types?

This is good to know! I had a Benchmade that I loved that was stolen that I still miss. The only fix can be another knife to fill it's place

It’s like selecting the right tool for the job. The blade profile and edge ground into it are specific to a job or task you would want it to perform. You’ve got the drop point which has that classic spear head type design that leads into a nice easy curve and then straightens out and is known as a utilitarian or all around blade profile it can do a lot of jobs really well. But then look at a skinner with a long sharp point and big sweeping belly that’s going to lend itself to a nice rocking motion when you go to clean an animal.

    https://www.bladehq.com/cat--Knife-Blade-Shapes-Guide--3429
Then you’ve got the blade steel itself which is often overlooked. Typically, the price of your knife is going to be dictated off the steel that was used to make it. There’s a huge selection that all perform at different levels; edge retention, ease of sharpening, corrosion resistance.. etc each steel has pros and cons. I think Blade HQ has a really really good blade steel guide with graphs and data to compare if you like that sort of thing.

Edit: Went ahead and linked these guides.

I do own a Benchmade that my Mom gifted to me, but otherwise I am not a fan due to their awful customer service a few years back.

Which is a bummer because the Osborn 940 has always been one of my favorite knives to come out.

Spyderco has some of the coolest knives out there IMO and I love the collaborations they do with other designers/makers.

I love my 940. I’ve had this one for just over 6 years and had a green aluminum handled one for before that for about 10 years that I unfortunately lost. This one due for a cleaning but it’s been my go to for pretty much my entire adult life. It’s so slim and light that you always end up having it on you when you need it.

Blade needs a little work from carrying, but nothing beats a ‘Shiro’ as far as flippers are concerned……E407A9F8-0A19-4C4F-8100-301CB91167AE.jpg

hey man! yeah.. that sounds like the answer to me! lol Protech definitely has a lot to choose from.

Nice! That insert is awesome. I love their low number, high end material runs.

The one thing we just dont agree on. We like so much of the same stuff, even the same knives.. lol.. but I am not a Spyderco fan. Simply because I have never liked any of their designs. lol

...and I cant believe you sold your Anchor Forge.. :pout:

In fact let me blow your mind with this open bid that just wrapped up lol. It was a collab piece from a very popular bead/lighter trinket maker some very nice metal work, then a knuck maker that as well is very popular with a lot of one offs and different mixed materials:
    83ADE383-CEF6-49D5-BE77-B3797E856BCB.jpg
that just sold for a high bid of $17,100

Since everyone is talking about knifes. Any suggestions on a relatively inexpensive knife sub $100 that's light ? Looking for something to take camping with and not cry on the off chance I lose it...... though I lost my otf and was not happy about it last time I was camping .

this one is lighter, but less beefy. The compact versions of these are awesome nice little guys with quick action.

The boker above is on there I would also suggest the civivi relic not the lightest but comes with a tweezer that does come in handy- use code WMK to save 10%
