Well after 3 or 4 years of solid performance with Shibby Tomato and a few moves, my ASUS RT-N66u router finally shit itself after 2 days of being plugged into the wall at my new place. Had recovery mode but no GUI and no WAN connection.

The ASUS flash tool took two tries to get a fresh build of Shibby to take but all is well again. Hoping it was just a fluke with the flash and that this Gilbert house doesn't have sketchy power...

Not sure about Gilbert but Chandler has some pretty shitty power. I don't have my Asus routers on surge protectors and have't had issues so far.

One of my neighbors works for Cox Communications and sometimes I ask him to bump up my bandwidth for a day or two. I needed some extra speeds today so I asked him to nudge me up a bit.

Man I hope he never moves.

I'm glad Cox never enforces their bandwidth limit.

How do I get in on that action of getting faster speeds? That's crazy fast.

Right. You do get what you pay for.

My neighbor is the manager of field operations. He calls it in and says unlock the account I'm working on it.

    That sucks!

I'm getting about 30/10, with Netflix playing on another device.

It's all about who you know in the world! Doesn't suck too bad I never have issues for what I need. Your work is a little more important than my gaming needs

That's not too bad. Is netflix a data hog? When I use it I can't even tell on my network that it's running. And when I just checked both routers I have 56 connected devices that are active and online lol. So lots of talking on my network.

Don't get me wrong. With the upload speeds I'm getting I'm also backing up ALL of my data to my Amazon S3 account. So around 5tb will be pushed up over the next few days. So I'll be using it while I got it.

I don't game online at all. Never found it that fun.

According to Netflix, the highest quality is 25Mbit/s. I'm watching it through a PS3.

Vudu claims the same for HDX streaming, yet when I monitor it I don't see it using much more than 10mb. I'll have to check Netflix and monitor its usage for awhile, see what it really pulls.

Think it depends on the device you use. I believe Netflix streaming to a browser will only stream SD content, which is around 3Mbit/s

Well I found out why. There are 'streaming plans'. and UHD isn't streamed unless you want to pay extra for it.

A good router that is designed for gaming can help with this big time. Most have a QoS page you can mess with.
