I have yet tried either. Not sure if I should use it on the Linksys Velop if it will really help with it that much.

I want to get the Linksys WRT1900AC. It was designed with 3rd party firmware in mind. My Cisco E3000 does the job right now though.

I love Tomato for all the little tweaks you can't do with stock firmware. Over clock it, increase WiFi performance, use a VPN on it without limiting yourself to 15mb down speeds.

Well no Tomato but there does seem to be a DDWRT firmware from what the support list suggests.

DDWRT isn't bad. I just like Tomato more. Both really do the same thing. It's not worth it for most people as all the extra features you can tweak can just make things worse if you aren't sure what they do. My main reason for doing it was to put my entire house on a VPN. So anything connected to WiFi is on that VPN vs me having to install a client on each device.

Netgear Router/Modem arrived yesterday. Finally got it hooked up today. And I am dealing with it now.

Modem connected to ISP without issue. 24 channels down are locked and 4 channels up are locked.
So far all wired devices are working as expected.
Wireless are all connected and I am in the process of modifying Kodi settings as the routers IP range for nether is slightly different that asus. Not a big deal, just mildly a PITA. I am sure if I dug deep enough I would figure out how to change the router's IP range, but That would be as much work as resetting Kodi's source settings on one device, as the other pull from it.

I was hoping to use my old ASUS RT-N56u as a repeater for a faster connection to an older Media server, but that is easier said than done. First I have to load a different OS in the router, as this one doesn't allow it... not hard, just time. Second, and most importantly, the mac mini I am using for the media server (SickBeard and SAB) seems to have a hardware issue with it's ethernet port. Which I will deal with on a mother day.

Setup was easy and it is all work, will report back in a few weeks. Hopefully the latency issues over trying to do some much on wi-fi have been elevated.

This Netgear and my older ASUS both have VPN that can be setup by default. I think it is one example of these guys finally listening to what the people want.

I need to play with Tomato more, maybe this ASUS will become my test router.

I have the NHL package and I hate that fact we get blacked out if it's on NBCSN. So I set the VPN to Canada and boom, no more blackouts.

My Asus's all had VPN, but the speeds were limited to 10 or 15mb down. Which made it worthless if you wanted to stream.

I did not know that, as I haven't played around with it too much. Thanks.

Try it out and see if they've changed it. I read the new Asus are faster but not sure if I'll get the 200mb down still. I think they throttle it for torrent reasons.

I'm going to try and dip out of a few meetings and go during the day to avoid the teenage crowd.

I'll tell you soon. 9 was pretty good. It was the first MK I got into after MK Trilogy.
