If its been reflowed once odds are the chips are fried. Try another reflow, if that doesn't work then off to sony it goes. I've seen bad reflow's many of times.

Typically send you a rebuild for a price.. No idea how much it costs.

google's telling me 150, on the forums the people are saying sell it to a company like gamestop for 100 and use the 100 that you got plus the 150 that you saved to buy a new PS3.

150$ sounds reasonable. But a new one is always an option as well. I'd still try to reflow it again

Call me old fashioned but i'd rather stick with the PS3 until the PS4 has been out a year or a year and a half, for the cost aspect and the potential problems aspect.

it is reasonable, gamestop want $230 (overpriced) for a refurbed unit, but i'm not sure i want a refurbed unit.

    i'll definitely try a reflow.
how hot does the heat gun need to be to effectively remelt the solder?
should i do the GPU and CPU or just the GPU?
i'll post pics when i get the PS3, my aunt still hasn't shipped it, and i'll be gone to the alps for 2 weeks next month, so it won't be anytime soon.

    700-800 degrees for heat.
Hold one inch away while moving across the gpu first. Sweeping back left to right slowly. Then to cpu. (Make sure rubber parts are removed. )

Let it sit for 20 minutes. Don't touch it at all for 20 minutes.

Then go the cpu in the same steps.

Replace rubber and give it a shot.

All depends what you really want. Also are you starting from scratch (as in, need keyboard/mouse/monitor(s)/speakers/ect) or just the tower?

For just a tower build... under 1k is very very easy to do for a beasty gaming rig that will play everything pretty well. Or you and go about as high as you can imagine to squeeze every FPS you can with triple SLI cards, best components, overclocking with liquid nitrogen cooling, ect....

No problem. I was wrong on my temps, its 500-700 range. This heat gun is what I have, works good on low and its inexpensive. thought it ran hotter for some reason. :notsure:
