I read it again and i dont feel like thinking that much tonight to try and comprehend it..

basically the first 20% of tags are given to bonus point holders.. (lowest bonus point on your application is the rank your app is given)

then they go through and look at 1rst and 2nd choice picks

then they go though and look at 3rd, 4th, and 5th picks..

and they make sure 50% go to out of staters..

What hunt were you putting in for? A rut hunt for a bull with a rifle? That will take 10+ years to draw, you have two more left!! And your brother could be putting in for some trash hunts... Did he get drawn for antelope, bighorn sheep, and buffalo? If so I would say something is fishy.

I went on my first hunt in November for whitetail, didn't get anything but had an awesome time. It was down by the border so you have a whole array of other issues to deal with. Saw so many helicopters, got buzzed at night, saw drones, it is crazy. Camping was scary too, the noises of the night play tricks on your mind.

Been drawn three years in a row (cow elk) going for my forth year!!!! If you want to hunt cow elk put in for unit 10......850 permits I always list unit 10 as my last choice and if I don't get any of the others I'll get drawn for 10...almost a shoe in!!!

I do a bunch of coyote hunting and I need to put in for Elk by Monday! If not, I will just wait for archery deer.

I haven't been able to put in tags for anything in a few years because of my military service. Now I look forward to getting back in the hunt.

Brody, first of all, thanks for your service. So, I hope you put in and get your choice. Are you looking for archery or rifle? If by any choice you pick 7W, 10 or 8 let me know as I've hunted those areas and made satellite maps with all the water holes and some pointers on where I've been successful.

As far as coyote hunting around the valley I would say Roosevelt or Apache lake area I have been the most successful. Anywhere close to the valley and there is just too much people around to be successful.

As far as elk hunting, I put in for the draw and I chose some early and late hunts hoping I can at least get a tag.

Like I said, it has been a few years and I hope I just get to get out there and bring home a bull.

Thanks man I appreciate it, to you as well.

MY hunt choices this year were as follows:

    CHOICE 1 - 03003
    CHOICE 2 - 03002
    CHOICE 3 - 03008
    CHOICE 4 - 03007
    CHOICE 5 - 03026

If you have the regulations handbook you can see exactly what hunts those are. My buddy who isn't military who has been hunting here his whole life helped guide me into picking some of these hunts in hopes of getting a tag.

On the contrary, there are opportunities to be had right on the outskirts or just inside town on the west side... especially areas with water like fields, golf courses, and other natural and man made sources. You just have to know where they are and practice sight/noise/smell discipline. Mornings and evenings and be patient. I've seen packs of coyotes 15 deep along the Gila River in Buckeye.

I agree 100%, just haven't hunted predator on the west valley.

I've been hearing that you gotta go like a mile out of the city to have much of a chance at getting into them.

It just depends dude. There are so many factors when it comes to predator hunting.

The best way to learn is trial and error. What might work for you might not work for someone else.

Like the post mentioned above.. Good noise/smell/light discipline will help you out tremendously. That and how good of a call you can make. Or a FOXPRO.

Ive got one of those. Im pretty sure my post-lacrosse smell isn't too enticing for the coyotes. Does the scent blocker stuff really work or is it a bunch BS?

It depends on what you use. Some of the shit is a gimmick. You have a FOXPRO or you have calls?
