If you're used to smacking quackers back east or in the Midwest, you're going to be disappointed with waterfowing in AZ. Very few spots that hold a good amount of birds. My buddies will shoot 100 birds a week, last year I had a good year and shoot 105 birds in the entire season.

I love waterfowling but it's super hit or miss. Lots of scouting. I usually will take a drive to scout one day and then hunt the next. If it's good I'll hunt a second day.

Key thing out here is weather. Need the wind. This weekend a storm is brewing and I'm hoping to go scout on Friday and smack some birds this weekend. Will let you guys know how it goes.

Where we hunted back east, there were always ducks moving, which was nice, it was just getting them to decoy. Plus, we were on the ocean so you could hunt sea ducks or puddlers, I always preferred puddlers.

Let me know how you make out. I still owe you a beer, I am in the process of moving to Phx so I will be in the valley.

When pig hunting with the bow, I always see duck hunters , jump shooting ducks on tanks in southern Arizona.
You have to remember we don't have the water like azgunner is saying. So I think people find large tanks where the ducks congregate in winter and cover those and have ok success. But you would need to Pre scout to have better success.

Also some pheasant and mearns quail in southern Arizona

I would double check that with Game and Fish. Lake Pleasant is a State Park and I don't think hunting is allowed. I'm not a waterfowl hunter so I don't know.
