I'm gearing up for Dove season and waterfowl season, I'm placing an order for some patternmaster chokes, let me know if you want in. I'm probably also going to be placing an order for some steel loads as well.

    https://www.patternmaster.com/

PM me if you're interested in getting in on the patternmasters

It's not exactly hunting but I managed to bring home 6 rainbow trout and 2 one gallon bags full of crayfish from rose canyon lake today. I was pretty happy with the outcome.IMG_20170816_112703655.jpg IMG_20170816_143909202.jpg

They just stocked it with 4,000 fish on Monday. They're all over the fuckin place! That's why I asked the wife permission to go fishing when I'm supposed to be on paternity leave from work. Haha

I guess bringing home good wild caught food is still doing what a dad should do, so I don't feel guilty at all.

I'm heading back up there tomorrow at about 4:30 to get me some more. :D

Dang Maybe I should head up and catch some if they just stocked it! What did you use to catch the crayfish? I have a few traps I usually just throw hot dogs in them but it didn't seem to be working for me on Saturday

Definitely head up if you have time. Real early in the morning or at dusk is the best time for the fishing. I used a can of Vienna sausage and a hand full of dog food in each trap. The dog food puts alot of scent in the water. I watched alot off u-tube vids and it seems to be a very popular bait for crayfish so I gave it a shot. Works well. I'm honestly surprised to hear that hotdogs didn't work well. They'll pretty much go after any meat in the water. Maybe try something with more scent to it

Went back up to rose canyon today and got another stringer full of trout and some more crayfish. I was a bit more selective on the size of the trout that I kept today. Tomorrow will be round 3. Should be the biggest and best yet. I've never fished a small lake that was freshly stocked before so this has definitely been a learning experience for me. Next time I'll know what to do on day one. Haha
    Anyhow- here's some pics:

Looks like you are on the side that does not have the paved walkway? I've always had better luck on that side but my girl doesn't like to walk over there so we always end up at the little pier thing

There's so many fish in there right now it doesn't really matter where you're at. Although I did find a favorite spot and it is where you think it is. If you can believe it, I actually caught the last one with no bait on the hook. The red treble hook moving fast through the water was enough of a lure to catch the biggest one of the day. It's crazy with so many fish in there. I foul hooked a few of them today because they're swarming anything moving. I actually pulled out an eye ball! I even reeled one in that was hooked right by the anal fin. If you make it out there this weekend use a treble hook with some power bait and a sinker about 6" above that just so you can cast further. Cast in and reel in at a fairly quick pace. You'll feel them hitting it left and right, but they're not immediately taking the bait so setting the hook is a bit tricky but it's a ton of fun.

    Eyeball picIMG_20170817_081836644.jpg
And I did use the eye as bait and yes they hit it.

That is insane man! I gotta get up there before they all get caught. My girl is obsessed with using Carolina rigs and I've literally never seen it work. I typically use the same thing you described for trout, with the bright green power bait and a sinker. Gotta get up there..
