Good luck. Not a lot of water at least in the Flag area this season. Also low migration numbers so far... may have to try out new spots compared to last season

Went up hunting around Williams. Didn’t do as great as last year, ended up with 2 squirrels for me and two for the old man. I think the stormy weather kept them still.

I went out to 36c to set my trail cams for deer season and I found out what happens when a cottontail gets hit with a 10mm hollow point...
    IMG_20181007_112513713_HDR.jpg

The pressure completely split it down the entry side and blew the eye ball out of the socket. Pretty spectacular.

Spent the weekend up in the white mountains. Opening day for ducks was slower than normal. Saturday morning was better as I think more birds showed up. Checked out the ponds and lakes but the wind was bad. Sunday morning was much better. The rain and sleet really pushed the birds around and ended up with 19 for Sunday morning. Lots of mallards and teal.

Sounds like you guys did a whole lot better than we did in the Flag area... 80% of all the lakes/ponds are dry even after the little rainstorm we had. Much different than last years mountain opener of which consisted of teal limits

I won’t lie, Friday afternoon I wrote the weekend off with what I saw. There was 3 of us and we shot 4 birds on Friday. 5 on Saturday. The weather totally helped today, if it wasn’t for the rain and sleet and wind I don’t think we would have had the flight and multiple shots at the same flocks. Total bag for the 2 days of hunting was 28 for the 3 of us. No limits but it was fun!

Oh yea! Definitely always fun still getting out. Hopefully up north gets some cold weather and pushes some birds down.

Also going to explore some new locations this season seeing as Flag is having its little water issue

With any luck, you guys will get more water over the next month or two. I'm crossing my fingers that yesterday's winter blast has more to come for the rest of winter. We could use the snow pack and not to mention it would make it a hell of a duck season! :)

It was sir! That bullet opened so fast that I found part of the mushroomed jacket lodged in its ribcage so the energy transfer was just massive! I was expecting some carnage but it's was pretty much turned inside out when I picked it up. Didn't see that coming. HahaIMG_20181007_113149758_HDR.jpg

C1E19A5E-3674-4DD7-9E5E-2E46EFE15D48.jpg Jack I shot at 40 yds Saturday afternoon with my AR. Had my dot on his head, ran right when I touched off the round. Salvaged what I could for the crock pot.

Nope not much at all was any good back there unfortunately. If he had stayed frozen for another split second the shot would have been alot cleaner. Oh well that’s rabbit hunting. Desert critters will take advantage of the leftovers.

I was up in Williams as well this weekend for Turkey...saw and heard absolutely no turkey. Got a couple squirrels and saw a lot of Antelope, Elk, and Deer...I always see the things I am not there for...heres to another year of not filling a tag.

Went to pick up my trail cams for deer and did a walk around after to try to get some food for my dogs. Bagged a jackalope! Pups will be happy.

Is it any antlered deer or are you on a specific hunt? I’ve never hunted 19a but I hear mule deer are towards the southern part of the unit.

    Ummm....stuff and more stuff
Mule deer will be at the lower elavations in that unit. White tails were be at the higher elavation. I have not hunt that unit, I normal hunt in 6A but I have friends that hunt there and they say there are pockets of deer that are honey holes. If you find lots of sign you are in the right area.

The little snow that is falling now doesnt really force them down in elevation. If there was a major system coming in with lots of snow it could force them down.

Not much help but all I have. Good luck with the hunt.

I unfortunately don't know the area well, but I am heavily dependant on glassing, so my first instinct would be to look for high ground where I can glass. If it's snowing and cold, I'd also expect to see them out sunning themselves too.. ?
