I used to find those guys all the time in northern Scottsdale/Desert Mountain area.

I haven’t hunted big game in AZ in almost 20 years, I don’t miss that lotto. I did however put in for that Buffalo hunt from the forest service but didn’t get drawn…bummer. Really wanted to get a Buffalo with a 30-30.

Any of you experienced hunters have any input on taking a black bear with a 300 blackout (supersonic)? Would you feel comfortable using that caliber?

I think it's all shot placement... I shot my bear with a 300WM from about 350 yards, one shot, ran downhill for about 25 yards and then dropped. I wiped out half the lung and the bottom part of the heart. I've seen a bear take 3 shots from a magnum before it fell. When we got to the bear, two shots were in the "vital area".

I'm a firm believer of using more gun than needed... :)

I am not a rifle hunter at all. I've bow hunted all my life, but I would imagine that you would want to stick to the common hunting calibers. 30-06, .270 Win, 7mm, 6.5 Creedmore, and .300 Win Mag... Again, I fling arrows at my game so take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks, I get what you're saying. In this circumstance it's either 5.56 or 300 BO for me to chose from.

Shot placement and follow up. Bigger is better, .300blk for sure

Went and explored a new area today courtesy of my dad. Found a water hole with 3 different sets of bear tracks on it so I placed a camera seeing as how this is the last year we can use them (thank you jackasses on the AZ strip...). I would gladly not kill a deer this year if I got a bear.

Plus I saw a coatimundi, my first ever coati I should say. Pretty cool.
