So thanks again to @Adventurer_Alex (I owe you a box of Ammo!) I got an AR bug... What's a good OOB AR? I'd ideally like something more suited to long range shooting in .223

One of my favorite Rifles is the Mk12 SPR so something that channels that, but under or around $1k for the budget.

I'm also looking at .45ACP's again, too.

Most all AR's are fine for a few hundred yards.
Ammo AZ sells quite a few cheaper AR's if you want to go look at them.

I'm selling a JP AR but it's $650 over your budget. Crazy accurate tough.

Probably without Glass and just practice with Irons and then get a good value scope later

If I'm piecing one together (even just a complete upper and etc bits) I'm gonna be pestering one of you for assistance cause thats well outside my experience.

@Adventurer_Alex and @DevilDocAZ know full well that I'm novice at just handling them. I am a little more versed on partd and function, but have no practical experience or tools in putting them together/taking them apart.

    @DevilDocAZ

Yep, I definitely didnt plan to build my first rifle. Figured buying would be better and then I can see how it goes together after a few cleaning cycles.

I enjoyed shooting @Adventurer_Alex 's rifle quite a bit and I've been interested in 3-Gun and long range shooting for awhile. As you saw, I have no skills whatsoever with the mechanics of operating a rifle, though. Once I had my 9's out it all came back to me and I probably would've handled the AK a bit safer had I shot my pistols first (would've refreshed my memory on the order of things as I hadnt shot in over a year and was never a religious shooter before then).

I'd probably end up selling since a truck gun isnt an option for me sadly. Work sends me to high security areas and bringing a gun in would likely get me federal jailtime. I'm also considering selling my Walther for that reason as that day was the first time I'd ever shot it. Just have no reason to have a carry gun because of work. That'd likely help with paying for a Rifle.

A .223 along with my CZ and a decent shotgun would likely get me into a 3-gun match after I get the hang of them.

Meeting you guys means a lot since I dont know anyone else who goes shooting aside from one friend who is now busy being a new father.

I'd do what @DevilDocAZ recommended, I'm into that AR you shot less than $1k.

I bought a rifle like this from Ground Zero Precision on sale for around $400. I do not recommend you purchase anything from Ground Zero Precision, the chamber was not bored deep enough causing malfunctions and was just plain dangerous. They were far from helpful when I tried to go through them to get a new barrel. I ended up buying a barrel from Ballistic Advantage and fixing it that way. Then you just need a set of rings and some glass I went with a Vortex Strike Eagle. If I were in your shoes I'd find a used AR15 from a major manufacturer w/ a 14.5" barrel (With a muzzle device welded/pinned in place to stay legal) a case of ammo and a decent set of irons. Get a low power fixed optic later and shoot out the barrel.

    DevilDoc is on point!

I am good with tools and Of course I cannot be taught so I built my first one, this was half the fun!
I read lots books/manuals and watched tons of instruction videos before buying my first part! This way I understood exactly how each part worked as part of the entire system.
I have built about 2 dozen plus or so now in all types of configurations.

In other news, my FIL wants to take my wife to the range as his Father’s Day present!

Hopefully she will listen to him and have a good time. Sadly she hasn’t been to the range since the middle child was born.

    So freaking excited!

@Snaeper I would build your AR, buy a striped upper, lower receivers and lower parts kit from Palmetto then a good quality barrel and BCG
Barrel I love is white Oak Armament and a good trigger like G2G (this is high quality entry level trigger ) and you have a Rifle that will last a long time and shoot way better than most name brand rifles

I got a membership at Target Sports USA and it has paid for itself in 6 months. They have free shipping which saves a bunch.
