The weather has me wary about this trip. Driving 9 hours just to have snow limiting us to not being able to do most of the route would be disappointing. I’m also on stock tires.

But, I already took the days off work and don’t really want to waste them.

Friday is all section 1 and 2 and when we will have the worst of the weather. @Ace115 and I did 99% of those section in 2wd, just after a good rain and then snow for section 2. Granted, we both have A/T tires but i think you will be fine. There will be plenty of us to help get you un-stuck if it comes to that.

I feel bad but I think I’m gonna have to back out. Just not worth the risk of driving so far away with the storm. We’re going to do some camping nearby instead over the weekend. Definitely still plan on doing this at some point though.

Best of luck to those of you still going!

I understand your decision. Sorry it didn’t work out but I’m sure we’ll try again some time. Have fun and be safe on your trip.

Honestly if it's gonna be snowy that's probably one of the better areas to be. All the southern part is 2wd when dry or moderately wet. The worst spot will be going down from montezuma pass and that's still probably less sketchy than trying to bypass it going in from parker canyon lake dealing with ice on the twisty paved road leading up to the lake. If it's super bad you could always try to get to the azt canelo pass trailhead on FR 799 big parking area to set up rtts and get a big fire going.

I'll see if there's any area updates from the hikers tomorrow and post in here. I know one guy came down off the Miller peak area into Sierra vista today and is going to skip ahead to parker canyon. He said ankle deep snow around 8k and got tired of breaking trail. Wasn't gonna make it down sunnyside canyon before the storm so he bailed down the east side

Yeah, that was until the Winter storm warning came up saying there could be 2' of snow. If that storm wasn't coming through I'm sure I'd still go.

So for those of you still “In”, how brave are you feeling?
Montezuma Pass is listed at just over 6500ft elevation. Could be a wild ride headed down that hill....

For the record, I’m doing it. I just thought I should ask the rest of you.

LOL! Guessing you need to help someone move or something along those lines. Being the only one with a truck, that happens far too often.:frusty:
