back spacing for first gen

    Bilstien adjustable 5100's up front, Trail-gear stinger bumper, custom fab stop sign skid plate, removed mud flaps
    I want to put new rims on my first gen. I'm looking to install 33 or 32 in tires. So either 11.5 in wide or 12.5 in wide. My question is this, what back spacing should I run for an 8 in wide rim? 3.75?4.75?

    my personal experience...

    there's a possibility of slight frame rub
    with a 285 mounted using 4.0"
    This could vary due to brand of tire and sidewall design
    and only when at full steering lock left/right

    It's also a good possibility that a 1250 will have a slight amount of frame rub even at 3.75"

    I personally feel the 3.75" is the better all around choice
    because it allows for more tire fitment/size options and growth.

    I currently run 295's W 16 X 8 BS'd 4.0" ~tires rub the frame some~

    my previously mounted KMII 285's... (sidewall lugs may have contributed)
    tire rub was minimal tho' it polished the frame on one side
    more so then the other

    just sayin'

    ~probably because I wish I had gone with 3.75"
    and instead I need run a 1/4" spacer and swap out to longer lugs~ :(

    I rubbed inside frame and outside (pinch weld) with 4" and 285's full lock/compression even with a shitload of cutting and clearancing. Gotta pay the piper one way or the other. Reducing backspacing even more would cause more pinch weld rub. Rubbing the frame only causes shiny spots. Rubbing the pinch weld hard can rip the fender off.
