Back to a Tacoma after a 4 year hiatus. Picked this one up recently and got to enjoy it this weekend.

I've been lurking on here for a while and got some valuable tips. Thanks everyone

I've already got the D rings from Army Surplus. Awesome deal for 5 at $10 shipped. It held the bike in really well and I felt much better than using the rails. Also did the hose clamp mod on the tailgate.

I was concerned with the rear springs but it wasn't a bad ride with the bike in the back. The rear squatted about 1" although it looked more. Curious to see how it would ride with 2 bikes in the back.

Its got the 245's so I want to get some bigger tires. Might have to wait for a while (wife vetoed the idea :smack:).

Welcome, a studious lurker indeed... D rings and the hose clamp already installed.

You'll probably want the Leaf springs in due time, esp w/ 2 bikes in the bed. With gear, and my much heavier 350 lb Dual sport, was a welcome improvement.

i've loaded up 3 bikes in the back before, well actually, thats apples and oranges cause i have aftermarket suspension in back but i WAS going to say it doesn't squat that bad, the rides a little rougher in back for me though when i have weight in back...where did you get those extra d rings, i've been wanting to get them, i'm assuming you mounted them in the front of the bed? I've had 3 of the rail mounts break at 3 different times and each time, almost lost all the bikes, shit was bad, got 2 tundra rail mounts now and those are better but i want d-rings so if you can tell me where you got them that would be great

    and welcome to TW!

I mounted 4 of them using the bed bolts in the front and middle. I transport the bike sideways when I'm going solo so having rings in the middle of the bed helped for the tie downs.

    I got the d rings from here - http://www.armysurpluswarehouse.com/...r-500-3752.cfm

Thanks. Good to have a truck again. I got tired of trailering the bike everywhere.

Ah, 03 YZ450. That was my last bike. That thing was awesome.

Yeah, I've read a few stories about that happening. The whole rail system flexes when I pull on the cleat by hand so I wasn't comfortable using it for my bike.

The cleats are nice since they can be repositioned but I've found that when I need to tie down something small that the cleats are too high to be useful. D rings at the bed bolts are definitely more useful to me. The composite bed is nice but I still prefer the metal bed of old.

Not to be mean but im a honda guy. I had a yz125 and it gave me hell. All the hondas I have owned have been solid! So I will be sticking to a Honda more than likely.
