I would also like to drive home! Hahahaha

I’ll report back with a gmrs channel/freq soon. I just updated the program for the baofeng to have all gmrs plus the extra channels that midland has on their units (that others we have wheeled with have).

    You have a baofeng?

I'll pick up a set this weekend since I also want to get into HAM eventually. Little bro and I use a set of GMRS Cobras that work quite good, range says 35 but we've never been more than a few hundred yards from each other.

Those will work and should work with any gmrs handheld. we can test it out in fact. i want to keep tweaking the gmrs config to be just right for the squad.

Yeah, HAM is the next step for sure. Those things are badass.

What day are ya gonna be there my man?

I have some handheld radios, if that's what y'all are talking about, would need to find 'em though. Might be smart for the rough and tumble group so spotting is easier. but meh. Just keep an eye out for that "ohhhhh fuuuuuuck" look on my face and things should be fine

Ill be there Sunday with my kiddo.

if they are FRS radios that are pretty common, then we should be able to chat with you on those as well. FRS is just a section of gmrs

Don’t overthink it tho. Stay together as a group. Honk if you have a problem or something and slow down if the guy behind you is falling back a lot. We aren’t going on a expedition through Africa.

i agree with this. but there is no time like a group run to try out some radio configs and what not for the larger trips :)

Works for me! What's the availability of the park after the gates have locked? Like getting in? I may come out late that night around 9 or 10 and camp with yall.

It used to be if you called and told em you were coming in late they'd give you a gate code and you can pay in the morning

Last time out @rocklobster2008 and his buddy in the Jeep completely blocked off the trail for what seemed like an eternity without moving. No one really knew what was going on..... I'll admit it sucked especially as my AC doesn't blow if the truck ain't moving.
At one point the Land Cruiser behind me was overheating and I had no clue he was stopping cause even if he did honk, no way I heard him until other people began getting out of their vehicles. Had he been at the back of the group, he may have gone unnoticed for a bit.
I let my 14 year old brother drive so we use our radios for both spotting and in case I get off and walk ahead as people are going through obstacles, easier to radio back and tell him to take a bypass and pick me up ahead.

Why didn’t you park your truck and get out and talk to them to see what was going on? And as for being unnoticed, that’s just bad teamwork.

I’m not knocking radio use as yea it can come handy but it’s kinda dumb for people to go out buying radios for this trip. Unless you just need to spend your money.

Been out to HF for years without a radio. Have had problems. Breakdowns and even a vehicle fire.

It’s just simple teamwork and communication.

So buy one or not. For people reading this considering it, it’s not a necessity. Save your money for beer or food.

How big was the group? This is a big reason why I typically like to keep groups at 3-4 rigs, 5 max. Even when everyone has radios it can get all jammed with people trying to talk over eachother nd stuff

    Well that's fkn dumb

Maybe we can camp on Lake Travis at Arkansas Bend or something instead? :notsure: Arkansas Bend in particular is even on the road JJs is on.. (Not 1431 but the intersecting road) I don't want to make things potentially more complicated, though. But, If we went to Arkansas Bend, we could have a little more freedom when we camp. Plus I can show everyone where I flipped my Tundra :anonymous:

Well for those turning it into a weekend let me know what yall decide. I will see if I can come out Saturday night and camp or what ever.... but FUCK I'm excited to wheel again before school gets heavy. This will probably be my last chance until jambo.
