Yeah we took 71 to I-10 and it honestly wasn't bad. Might have been a fluke idk.

It’s bad every Sunday basically. Maybe not Houston traffic bad but it’s terrible to us cause people exit and come through town and fuck it all up lol.

Are there any trails closer to Houston? I would love to go to the hill country, but that is hard to do during a semester.

When does your school start? @rocklobster2008 and I go back to school right after this meetup, figured most we're the same

There's Beevor (I think that's how you spell it) and General Sams... but fuuuuuck General Sams...

I start next week. I teach, and I have a house full of critters that need to be fed. Overnight trips are difficult for me, but I really want to get this truck off road and basically learn how to drive it! I'm a beginner. :p

Ohhh gotcha. Figured ya were a student :D

A lot of people are only going for the day but I know the teacher's life can be busy. Honestly the closest place to get some experience in to Houston would be Hidden Falls that I know of. General Sams is close but it's a clusterfuck. I heard the same about Beevor as well. Then next closest would be Barnwell Mountain, but I've always found more people willing to help navigate at Hidden Falls than Barnwell

BVORR in college station will be the closest that’s not a mud park. Other then that you’re driving to Austin area or up to Dallas area

Yeah, I teach. Do any of yall attend UH? Yall keep me posted on the next one. I will try to go. I could use some coaching, though. Didn't I read here that one poster wants to guide some beginners? :D

University of Houston? but nope. What do ya teach?!

@weldertaco is taking out the beginners this time. Once i get the itch to smash my truck around a bit i'd consider organizing some bigger runs later this year like I used to do. Would probably suggest dates in the TTC thread

If you could make the HF run you’d enjoy it. It’s a nice park, easy stuff for beginners and some harder stuff too.

    y'all not have AC? :bananadead:

I'll avoid Wolf Caves and K2 in this heat, but Hidden Falls and Barnwell aren't bad. Hidden Falls in particular has so much shade and creeks that the breeze off the water keeps it decently cool, and all the chalky rock doesn't absorb a ton of heat like Barnwell

Yeh, @weldertaco is one of the coolest people i've met via TW (not gonna rank everyone i've met through TW (ofc @ChadsPride and @rocklobster2008 are there as well) and he'll be able to take great care of anyone wanting to learn some basics. Even if he is driving a giant stock blueberry now
