Company I use partners with National and honestly they have been the better company by far. They are also part of Enterprise and Alamo group which have also been decent when National wasn’t available.

I am downsizing also, sold my 05 Ram 2500 Quadcab hemi.. fuel was killing me, I don't plow anymore, and the occasional times I needed a full-size truck were about 4 times a year (bark mulch, yank a stump out). I wanted something smaller. Plus I figure when I need bark mulch I'll have it delivered and dumped in my yard.

Now if I could only find a Tacoma that I want in my area for MSRP

Ive tried that before with Enterprise, picking the vehicle u want when renting to no avail even if its sitting there in the lot not reserved. Never made sense to me

Some dealers will rent Tacoma’s too. Getting tough because how the market has been, they rather sell them off than rent them.

I'm new to the tacoma platform; but here is my thoughts.
We bought new; acceleration is different for sure stock. Not bad, but lack luster. Ours is still under warranty so didn't want to jump to a ECT tune (which many rave about). In the meantime stop gap I tossed in a SprintBooster. Really makes truck and accl more enjoyable bang for buck IMHO. Even when upping the tires to 275/70/17's feel fine (better) running town. Just my .02

Where did you get the new tundra mpg info?

If that’s the case, then it would be a huge disappointment.

I prefer to drive the smallest truck I can day to day. I had a Silverado 1500 before my tacoma and am seriously considering a maverick for my day to day driving. You'll love the tacoma.

So went to the Toyota dealer this weekend to see what they would offer me for my 2018 Tundra with only 13,800 miles and they were very eager to make a trade for a new Tacoma Sport 4x4 in transit, not to my surprise. I was enthused by their offer for my trade at about what Carmax, Carvana, KBB, etc. valued which is about $45K. Pretty confident I can get a few more $$ when I trade and since I am a repeat customer... I wanted more options than this truck had and I am thinking about ordering a custom build. My question is, if anyone has any recent experience, what is the current wait time? I have seen a thread or two on the site but most situations were related to orders for 2021 Tacomas. Thoughts? TIA...

The dealer I bought wouldn’t take an order. I had to buy something on allocation.

You would probably have to wait about 6-8 months for a one that perfectly matches what you want. Right now most dealerships aren’t letting people special order anything so they will just give you a couple close options they might have incoming already. Pick a few major features you would like - Transmission, trim, engine, 2wd or 4wd, packages (technology package, leather, etc) and pick whatever is the closest. My 2022 isn’t in exactly what I wanted, but it’s close enough. (Side note - you wouldn’t be getting a 2021, you’d get a 2022.)

Yeah my bad for pointing it out a second time. I was reading the posts chronologically so I didn’t see the other comment till after I posted that.

I did what you're thinking about. Got rid of a 2018 F150 (3.5 ecoboost developed cam phasor problems). Hated doing it but really love my Tacoma. Should have bought Tacoma years ago. Let the chassis rust problem older Tacomas had steer me away. Had to take what I could get so it's not precisely what I wanted but still awesome truck. Mine's a 2021 SR5 DCSB V6. White with the XP Predator Package. Looking forward to a long, trouble free life with it.

And, btw, I'm new to the forum too.

Same here. I just down graded from a '20 F150 4x4 supercab. It was a great truck - solidly built and comfortable - but it was getting too big for everyday outings. The '20 Tacoma SR5 DCSB 4x4 V6 I recently picked up is turning out to be my favorite truck. It's very easy to drive and the auto is not a problem in any way. My last Tacoma was an '07. That was not a great truck. I'm really happy with this 3rd gen.

Depends largely in what color, trim, transmission and options you want.

So I hit the jackpot and my Tacoma is being built this week. My dealer secured it on allocation and a $1K deposit, should be here end of December, give or take…. Ordered a TRD ORDC 4x4 short bed in white with premium and advanced technology packages. Bad news is paying MSRP plus some BS dealer add ons like tint and door edge guards but on the positive side getting what I paid for my Tundra 4 years ago and probably 10K more than I would in a normal market. Also letting me hold on to my Tundra until Tacoma comes in. Got the deal in writing of course. Thanks for all the input here guys! Will have some more questions soon and the info on this site is amazing.
