Well, after a long year of owning a Chevy Colorado and having to basically rebuild the entire motor (cylinder head, gaskets, plug coils, throttle bottle issues, sensor issues, etc) I have decided to cut my losses and get back to where I originally was, which was driving a Tacoma. The long of it is, I bought an 08 base 5lugger back in 07 when I graduated college, loved the hell outta that truck. Only reason for getting rid of it was that I needed the 4wd for harsh NH winters, so I found myself a nice clean used 06 AC 4.0 w/ 30k on it. This was the best truck I ever owned by far, went everywhere and sipped on gas and also very easy to work on. Well, I had a bad clutch in it and at 44k the thing went, ended up having to get it towed away off the side of the road on my way to work and after a lot of diagnosis, we figured out what it was. It cost me a good bit of money, but me being the way I am, I got frustrated and went out and traded it for another vehicle I always wanted, which was GTI. Picked up a brand new '10 VW and man I gotta say that was one hell of a ride to say the least.....until my roommate wrecked it, which brings me to the Colorado. I don't have much to say about this thing other than it is the BIGGEST POS I have ever driven, hands down.

So, to conclude my unnecessarily long story, I'm buying another taco, this time it will be a reg cab 4cyl 4wd 5spd. My question to all of you smart and educated folks is, how much should I expect to pay for this truck? I know they don't have as much markup as the AC's and DC's but I must be able to get at least $1,500 off sticker right?

Anyways, I'm excited to finally be back and a part of this community again, although I dont post much at all, I still check up on here everyday, even when I didnt own a taco.

I don't blame you for not liking the Colorado, I rode in one once and couldn't believe the lack of quality. Good luck with finding a Taco.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Welcome back, you learned the hard way, but you learned!

I haven't looked much at the regular cabs, but like you mentioned, there is not a great mark up, so I would think $1500 might be a little optimistic. As always though, they can only say no!

Ha exactly, looking for another regular cab. Can't really swing gettin back into a v6 since I have to buy new and I have a bit of negative equity to roll in on top. So, I'm finding the cheapest way possible to get back into a 4wd tacoma.

I've got about $3800 in neg equity and I'm hoping to get at least $1000-1500 off sticker, so OTD @ around $23,600-23,800, give or take a few bucks.

Man, I came DAMN close to buying a Colorado back in 2005 when I bought my Tacoma. Thank jeebus I didn't.

My favorite part about Colorados/Canyons is when they are driven by anti-Toyota, anti-Japanese people who only buy 'merican brands, the same people who call Tacomas "Jap crap". The irony is that the Colorado/Canyon (rebadged Isuzu i350) are far less American in virtually every way than Tacomas are.

We have Canyons as company work trucks and they are junk. One good thing I have to say about them is they are pretty good looking trucks on the exterior IMO.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. Glad you are looking at Tacomas again.

Agreed, the Colorado is so poorly built, not to mention the royal pain in the ass it is just to change the oil. Chevy was smart enough to stick the filter just above the top of the front right frame rail and the only way to get it off is to drop the skid plate and get in their with a special channel lock tool that I had to buy after trying everything including jamming a screwdriver through it.

I probably wont pull the trigger until this weekend but I'm getting overly excited about getting back into a reliable truck. Any opinions on color? I'm leaning towards MGM but one of my local dealers has a pyrite mica in stock too and it looks sexy.

Chevy is definitely not up to standard...Ford is doing much better, but Toyota can spend more on the trucks cause they don't have all our labor costs to deal with.

    i came from a 96 ZR1 chevy S-10.

dealership dropped metal brush hair down into the motor and grenaded it. i got a free crate motor. i drove the piss out of that truck. at 80k miles, my transfer case seal leaked and drained my tranny. never saw a drop on the ground, but my tranny blew up. i paided $3200 to replace it,and i drove it some more. replaced all the ball joints DIY. once the heater core started gurgling, and the steering box got clunky..i bailed.

i looked at the colorado for about 30 seconds. it looks and feels like a turd.

    i now own a tacoma.

well i purchased my reg. cab in october of 10', got it for 23,754.68 otd and that was in California(high tax), i ordered it manual w/ buckets and when it came it had a bench because the 11's don't come manual with buckets, so they took off another 300 and threw in all weather mats and a bed mat, really sweet deal if you ask me, a buddy just got the same model but ex. cab and he paid 26,500 otd

I made the mistake of spoiling myself with 2 tacomas before the colorado. It made the colorado feel even more inferior than it already was. Most of my reasoning behind initially buying it was to get out the GTI I had sitting in the body shop and I knew I was gonna lose big on it and I found a chevy dealer willing to give me a decent deal on the Colorado and they bought the GTI sight unseen while it was in the shop unknowingly to them :spy:
