back up camera

My 15 didn't come with one. I wish it was just plug and play. I know the wires are there at the tailgate.

 

I did the same thing and it worked out great!

 

Ask a question on the Amazon page if the manufacturer supplies an adapter for the factory wiring. The company seems to answer questions pretty quickly.

 

I've seen some of the guys on here said that they were plug and play, just mount up a camera and plug in the wires and it starts working like magic!

 

OP, I'm looking at getting that PYvideo Backup Camera with the tailgate handle. I've got an '07, too.

How is yours working out for you?

My only concern is whether my Dynolock auto tailgate lock will fit in that handle with the camera. Any idea?

 

I dont have the locking tailgate handle, I just got the regular one so I really wouldnt know for sure but I bet it would. As far as "how is it working out" I love the hell out of it. I wired it into a switch rather than reverse so I can flip it on when ever I want to.

If you don't mind me asking...where did you mount the switch and what kind did you use? Any pics you could share? I've never wired a switch before...so that's going to be a new one for me...electrical is not my forte'...I did manage the black box removal...so I can follow directions!!!

 

Here is a pretty good vid on how to do all the wiring and then instead of having to find the reverse wire I just found a hot wire and went straight to the switch instead.

How are these working with manual trans? I have been debating getting a back up cam, just for the sake of nice-ness.

 

My 07 Sport is a manual trans and it works just fine.

 

No extra special wiring or splicing?

 

You spice into the reverse wiring if thats the way you want to go with it but as stated above I went straight to a toggle switch so I can flip it on when ever I want to.

 

Ah. Ya I'd want to splice into the reverse wiring. Shouldnt be too hard

 

To be truthful, I find myself using mostly when ever I pull into a parking lot and I went to pull forward into the spot ahead I flip it on, then as soon as I see the line in my back up camera I know I'm right on rather than guessing. I find the toggle switch helpful also when I'm backing in on a trailer hitch the camera stays on even if I have to pull forward an inch or two.

 

I ran the camera I installed on the FJ thru a switch so I controlled when it was on. I began using it as a rear view mirror instead of the POS mirrors on the FJ.

 

Are certain brands of back-up cameras better than others. Some of the displays I see in the car stereo shops look not very sharp, not very bright, and that is during daylight. Or is the sharpness/brightness more dependent on the stereo itself.

 

Good question, I cant really say if one is any better than another, I went with this kit and I was happy with it so I stuck to it.
