Just bought a 2009 Access Cab Tacoma and noticed there is a back up camera in the tailgate handle, although the Cab has a stock CD/Radio unit. my 2 questions are, does it come wired from the factory even though there is a stock CD player? and if so, what are some recommended aftermarket units so I can have a screen to utilize the camera?

    Thank you.

That's really interesting. Mine does not do that. Is that a function you have to activate or did it do that right from the start?

I had a 2010 rental during my frame recall and it was in the rear view mirror. I think they put them there until the 2012’s. You’re prob prewired you just need the different rear view mirror.

They wouldn't put the camera in without it being functional. Harnesses may be installed, but not the actual camera without the correct mirror.
I see you have a manual transmission, does it go into reverse nice and smooth?
My 2010 beeped when I put it into reverse and then the rear view mirror display the rear view of the truck. (manual also)
Check fuses, then check the wiring harness from the gate to the body and work your way up.

I bought a harness for my '13 from camera source to relocate the backup camera display to the radio screen.

Right, that's what it's sounding like. Now I need to track down one of these mirrors.

No activation required from day 1. May have been part of the SR5 package.

I have the same setup, lens in the gate, not sure about the actual camera?...
looks to be pre-wired, but nothing in the mirror.

I believe the proper rear view mirror has a harness assembly out the top that ties
    into the overhead cubby?...
Mine just sticks to the windshield, there is no harness.

Anybody have a good photo of the proper mirror and overhead cubby harness?

I've seen somebody on here who had a couple mirrors to sell...can't find that now though.

    Thanks.

My 2013's back-up camera is displayed in the mirror as well. I believe the switch was made for the 2014 model year.

I can turn my camera off in the mirror though. I.e. No back-up view displayed. It's possible that your camera is just disabled.
Have you tried playing the the button on your mirror at all?

There is not button in the mirror or wiring harness out the top. I just have a regular mirror I guess. I’ll look around for an backup compatible mirror.

Or look for a Double Din stereo unit. If there any compatible. Does anyone know if there are ones that sync seemlessly?

Any idea which aftermarket DoubleDin stereos are compatible with the stock tailgait handle back up cameras on the 2009 Taco?
