Just backed into a tree and I'm in shock and angry. Busted the light and put a dent in my bumper that I bought at the end of Sept 2019.

What will a dealership charge to fix this? Would it be pretty easy to buy the bumper andt light lense and install it myself?

you will need the tail lamp, and the left bumper end cover for sure. you may need the left bumper end reinforcement, and possibly a sensor, or sensor retainer. hopefully the box side isnt buckled or dented. the bumper cover WILL NOT COME IN COLOR so, you will need that painted at a shop. if you are mechanically inclined, you can do this yourself. DONT CALL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY, unless you want your rates to go up. sorry for you misfortune. Ski

Get back at the tree, cut it down and burn it in front of the other trees! It won't happen again.

Rear tail lights pop up for sale often here. I'd pull that bumper cap off and see if there's damage underneath.

That looks like a simple fix. These bumpers were advertised by Toyota as being cheaper and easier to repair. That’s why they’re so flimsy, they say.
So, cost would prob be tail light and a couple of bumper pieces. Search online for the parts. Prices usually fluctuate a little.
Dealerships labor cost is usually on the higher side. Find a collision repair shop or do it yourself

Try a paintless dent repair they could at least get the dent out.

Take off the bumper cap and check for any structural damage. Lights are easy to replace. I had to replace mine when I nudged my garbage can at -40`C.. the lens exploded on impact from the cold. You might be able to find another cap at a wrecker or there's that online website that I can't remember that has used car parts. Hopefully someone can chime in on the name of that.

50-100 dollars for a used tail light.
    Install it yourself.
Keep the dents. It's a truck.

It is if you want a cheap taillight from me. Not shipping it.

Truck's not even 6 months old; fix it right and let the insurance company pay for it. That's what insurance is for.
We've had two fairly minor accidents/claims in the family over the last several years and insurance has only gone up a couple hundred bucks.

If your insurance company is raping you every time you have a claim, it's time to get a new insurance company.

I replaced a taillight housing myself - I think it took about 5 minutes maybe less. Ordered from the place in Myrtle Beach they had the best price. Flip the tailgate down, remove 2 bolts I think? Pop out the bulbs, reverse operations, done.

    this right here
It will cost you more out of your own pocket than it will to pay your deductible and take the hit.
And you won’t have to cheap out on getting it fixed right.

I agree, the insurance companies want you to pay your steep premiums and not report claims. Report your claims and if they raise your premiums just shop them and go with a new less expensive insurance company.

Insurance companies will do most anything to get your business, but will do nothing to keep it.

Yeah the tail light is super easy to change out and fairly inexpensive, especially if you go used. you could always try the boiling water trick to try and fix the bumper. Won't be perfect but will look better. The good news is if you do have to replace the bumper its only the one side not the whole thing.
