Looking for some insight from someone who owns this cover.. I recently bought a Bakflip MX4 from Realtruck.com. I guess that’s the official website of Bak now.

Anyway, before buying I watched multiple install videos that show the bed rail being relocated using an “S” bracket. In fact, I didn’t see a single video that didn’t show these relocation brackets.

I received my cover and it seems that they sent me hardware that incorporates the factory rail system instead of relocating it. This makes the factory rail system a lot less useful. Am I missing something here?

install videos that show the rails being relocated.

When I installed mine it came with the relocation bracket that moved the factory rail down a bit.

Mine came with those brackets. You should contact Realtruck and explain to them the situation if it wasn’t included.

Thanks, will do. Hoping it’s just a misunderstanding.

I read somewhere on here that they redesigned the mounting method to what you received. It truly sucks if that's the case.

Interesting, I’d be interested to read about this further.

Wonder what the benefit is? I actually had bought the Bak Revolver X4s before returning it, and that did indeed come with the brackets. So not sure why this wouldn’t.

MX4 was indeed redesigned to mount the rails without the brackets. I have the X4S. I wouldn't recommend either. Lomax stance or shell imo.

Yea received one last Saturday and it’s the same as you describe. Missing several parts to boot. Their customer service is non existent. Will not buy another one.

Got a hold of a rep by phone and on TacomaWorld and it’s what some of you were saying.

They redesigned the rails so that they can be mounted straight onto the stock deck rail system. No option to buy hardware that relocates it anymore.

I don’t know if this is a deal breaker or not, but it’s a huge bummer for sure. Might just look around for an old used one..

I'm not aware of the redesign since I picked mine up used that had the relocation brackets. One thing I'll mention though, is that if you're considering getting molle panels for the bed, your only option might be the Caliraised ones that's compatible with the Bakflip since it's relocated.

Have you tried calling bakflip directly? I bought mine used back in 2021 and it was missing pieces. I called them and they were very helpful. They got me everything I needed

Yes I did. They told me they don’t sell the old design anymore, the new design is what it is.

It doesn't relocate it so you are correct. It does allow a little less intrusion into the track system than the BAK option.

As to why BAK did it I would guess cost or that people complained about the track relocation a lot. I'm not really sure why but we got a lot of negative feedback about it along with drain tubes that need to be drilled on a Tacoma bed.
