Backlit Cruise Control

I did a couple searches and didn't see any results, so I figured I would post this here to see what you think:

My girlfriend drives a 2016 Rav4 Limited. Her cruise control knob is backlit with her instrument cluster/when her lights are on. I noticed back when I had an SR5+ 4Runner mine was not. Same thing with the Tacoma (TRD Sport) - no back light on the cruise control lever.

Does anyone have a Tacoma Limited that can chime in if theirs is backlit? It seems small, but it bothers me, and I think it looks a lot better when it is backlit. Seems like most of Toyota vehicles have the same lever, why not make them all backlit?

Any thought if it would be plug and play if I was to swap it with one that is back lit? For the Rav4/Highlander it looks like the part number is: 846320R011. For $85 I may give it a shot.

May or may not work. Best case scenario, plug n play. And likely worst is you may just need to add 2 pins to the existing harness at the clock spring in existing empty slots to serve as positive and a neg, or may only need a ground...just depends. I had to do something similar when I added 2014 steering controls to my 2013, had to add a single ground for illumination to work.

 

Please post the results! Hopefully plug in play.

 

I wonder if it’s the difference in actual steering wheels between the two?

 

I have confirmed it is a different part number. The Tacoma is a three pin electrical connection - part number - 8463208021 and the Rav4 is a 4 pin electrical connection - part number - 846320R011.

I will order the Rav4 part and give it a shot. More to come.

 

The 4th wire is probably just for the light. Should be easy enough to wire it in.

Didn't even realize the Tacoma cruise control switch wasn't lit. I'm interested to see if the RAV4 is an easy swap. Good luck.

My wife also has a '16 Rav4 and I've always wondered why some features are left off and others left on between models. Accountants I'm guessing. For instance, her cruise control stalk is lit up where as mine isn't however my sunroof controls are lit and her's aren't.

 

Damn, so expensive. I was thinking it would be like 45 bucks for the little switch. It looks like it is the whole mechanism for the cruise control. Did you end up spending over $100?

 

Cause RAV4 is a girls car and..
