I have a question for you people. Have you ever had to deal with a backseat driver? If so, how did you deal with it?

I am a very safe driver. I don’t tailgate. I never speed. I come to a complete stop at stop signs. I use my turn signal even if there’s not another car anywhere in sight. I have no dangerous habits. I carry passengers all the time that never give me any indication I’m doing something wrong.

I’ve tried being nice. I’ve tried politely explaining it bothers me. I’ve tried being a straight up jerk. I’ve tried speeding up, whipping in to an empty parking lot at a high rate of speed, slamming on the brakes, getting out, opening her door and telling her that’s enough!!! I even pulled over and left her ass at a restaurant and told her to call a cab.

I don’t know what else to do. I am at the end of my rope.

I think backseat driving is one of the most annoying faults a person can possibly have. It’s a great way to screw up a perfectly good day. Not only that, it creates a dangerous distraction.

HELP!!!!!!!! This crap is going to put me in a mental hospital or divorce court!!!

Why don’t you try to just ignore it, or just don’t take her with you anymore until she gets the hint.

    Is SHE a good driver?

    Let her drive...

Alternatively, get a large brown paper grocery bag and require her to wear it when you are driving.

That must be some quality strange and/or you are legally bound by a marriage contract! If she is you wife and you love her, then find a way to come to terms with her on this. Otherwise dump her at the nearest bus depot.

No shit, this whole time Im wondering who "she" is and why TF she's even given a 2nd ride. If you get angry enough to "whip in parking lots and slam on the brakes", you got more issues than a backseat driver.

Take this rant shit to off topic and go to couples therapy. You sound like a loose cannon and she sounds nucken futs too. Please don't drive anywhere near me.

Let her participate. Four eyes are always better than two. See may see something you missed and save your ass sometime.

Sounds like deeper marital issues to me. I like the suggestion of separate vehicles. A cheaper hack would be earplugs. Best wishes!

If you've told her it bothers you, she continues to do it, and you've gone so far as to actually leave her somewhere and she STILL does it, you have much deeper communications and other issues than her knit picking you about your driving. Go see a couples therapist or a lawyer.

Marriage therapy, then a good lawyer.

If my spouse dropped me off at a random restaurant and said “call a cab”, you’d be able to skip the therapy and jump straight to the attorney.

My advice is to meet with all the best divorce attorneys within a 100 mile radius of your home. A single initial meeting is fine.

This will inhibit your soon-to-be ex-wife from being able to hire them for her representation. Divorce will still likely cost you half your stuff (depending by state) but this tactic might mitigate this a bit.

You might want to sell anything you really like to buddies for nominal amounts. “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” is a famous quote for a reason.
