So when folding down the backseat, you are supposed to take off the head rests and put them in their designated slots on the bench. My headrests do not fit in their slots. Anybody else having this problem? I think Toyota made a mistake with this design.

There's holes in the folded seat for the pegs of the head rests. They work fine for me. I seem to remember they are tight or won't fit is the front seats are too far back. I don't remember for sure, I only did it once to see how it worked.

They won't fit in the area marked "2" on my truck. If you have JBL, the area behind the passenger side is very small. I don't think that's the intent anyway. Like I said, there's a specific place for them to be inserted.

I'm talking about the specific holes for the pegs of the headrests. Mine do not fit because the holes are too small. I think It is an old bench seat from the 2nd generation

I was under the same impression, they do fit. 1st make sure you have them facing in the correct direction, then insert one side first slowly push down and it will start to seat, line up the other side and finish install. I put the post nearest the center of the truck in first.

OP if I remember right .... the headrests are turned the other way when inserting them into the folded seat. If you still can't get them in ..... take a pic for us to see

I don't have many rear passengers; so all 3 of mine are in storage. The headrests take up to much space when I have the seats folded.

As soon as I got home, the headrests came out. I like to be able to see out the back window. I also have my rear seats down about half the time so it's easier to just not have them in the truck.

Before I took them out, they did fit in the holes. The headrest also do a fold forward thing when fully extended but I'm not really sure what the point of that is.

They do that so they don't get in the way when you are shoulder checking.

Keep trying at it. Maybe the holes need to be slightly stretched using the headrests themselves? Remember it is still a new truck and things are tight.

Odd. Those locking notches face the other direction on my truck.

hmmm....i wonder if a few of us had them installed backwards? Doesn't seem like that would cause the hole to be smaller though.

Unless I'm looking at that picture the wrong way, the notches turn to the inside on mine, but yeah, your right, it should still be able to go in.

Well....I will eat my words. I tried for 15 minute the other day to put the headrests in these slots. I just went out again and tried it and it worked perfectly. Only difference was the first time I tried it was like 5 degrees outside and the truck was cold. Today in the 35 degree range. So, either I am just stupid (highly likely) or the cold was causing the plastic to be stiff and not give around the posts. They were a tight fit today. OP try it in warm weather and put some muscle behind it.

It was about 50 degrees when I tried it and I tried jamming it into the slot but no luck. Its not that big of a deal I just have OCD when it comes to stuff like that.
