Does anybody know of a way to disable the camera while in reverse? There are times, backing up a trailer at night for instance, where I don't want the bright back-up camera shiny in my eyes when I'm using the side mirrors. It would be great if I could flip a switch to cut the screen/camera off.

Any ideas?

 

@YotaBum - Pin #2 of the 28 pin connector is grounded when not in Reverse and +12VDC when in Reverse.

So to disable the camera in Reverse, you'd ground the pin. Make sure you've disconnected the input wire from the circuit first, of course, as you don't want to blow anything up.

I'd suggest you look on Digikey.com for a SP3T switch in an On-On-On configuration. SP3T means Single Pole, Three Throw -- make sure you get On for each position and not Momentary contact in one of them.

Wire it up with three inputs: ground, original wire, and +12VDC. Output to the head unit pin #2. Switch would then provide the choices of Camera Disabled, Normal Function, Camera On.

I ran across one more use for this mod today, I had the Bed of my truck loaded and could not use the rear view mirror for anything other than looking at my back seat rests. I popped my RR view cam on and voila I had a temporary rear view mirror, this was probably one of the most obvious uses but dumb me hadn't really though about it, I don't usually have my bed stacked up with so much shit that I can't see.

 

Did this today. Works great.

 

Can you give the wiring for how you set up the NAV mod? I am planning on doing both this weekend and would like to get them done at the same time!
