So today is hot and humid. 95 degrees and bloody gross humid out. Get in my truck and the backup camera looks like its vibrating. I checked, camera is not loose, harness looks undamaged and its plugged in tight.

I mention weather because i work for volvo and they have had issues with hot weather and their cameras. I know being in nh i dont experience heat like some other members here, anyone else had this issue?

Edit: snapped a pic but it just looks like i used a shitty camera. And yes i know my screen is filthy. Even the guide lines were blurry and shaking

Did you clean/wipe the lens off? It gets really dirty easily.

Yep, check that first. I always wipe off the lense when I first get in and the truck is covered in dew.

I can see in the image that the video being fed to your display is very poor quality. Is it on going issue or a one time/random deal?

No mods or upgrades, not a dirty lense, if it were a hardware issue i dont think the guidelines and screen edges would display shaking/blurry

That almost looks like EMI or poor shielding / grounding on the camera or connectors.

Tomorrow ill try to figure out who makes the camera for our trucks and see if its similar to the ones in problemed volvos. Problem looks identical and i know those only act up in 100+ degree weather. Id be shocked if a nh truck was the first with a heat related issue though

I'm sure your dealer would replace it....I'm pretty sure mine would. Rode in a friend's Mercedes the other day...their backup camera was awesome...large screen and appeared to be in HD. The one in my Tacoma does what it suppose to but not great.

I am still under warranty. But with a rear diff recall and a cps recall they cant fix my truck is staying out of the dealership. Well trying to atleast. Plus i know they will tell me they couldnt duplicate, its normal etc

So far the dealership is 0 for 6 for addressing any issues ive had

As someone whom works at a dealership I can tell you we're not all like that and apologize on behalf of the rest of us that actually give a damn. While in a lot of cases we have to duplicate issues, it's pretty clear that you have evidence of an issue what the picture, especially if it's a recurring issue. Perhaps trying a different dealership would help? Just trying to offer ideas brosef.

I know they arent all the same, i work as an advisor in a dealership. But the 3 within 50 miles of me have been little help.

To give an example my truck went in 4 times for the clutch pedal squeak. 2 different dealers, last 2 times was by a toyota field technical supervisor and at the end he basically said im on my own and going to have to deal with it or figure it out myself.

Im sure there is a decent toyota service department somewhere who cares, i just havent found it. And im not willing to drive more than an hour to find one.

    Hey Guys,

Can I pop a question regarding the camera? I have had this 2017 Taco less than 2 weeks, went to take the tailgate off to load something. Tried to follow the instructions and disconnect the back up camera. Is that the grey and white plug located under the bed by the spare tire? Or am I missing something?

    Thanks
    Dick

Update: worked flawlessly this morning. Worked right at lunch. Blurry again leaving work. Outside temp 96 and sunny. Looked up volvo tsb and it calls for an inline filter for interference causing blurry image to appear and in extreme heat screen displays blue. related to outside temperatures over 90 degrees. Ordered filter, no clue if it will fit my tacoma but its a 2 pin connector so maybe?

I feel both special and confused. Certainly my tacoma isnt the first to be baked in the sun on a 95 degree day. And far from first time it cooked

If it helps OP, I live in southern california and I have backed my truck in 105+ degree weather. But its desert dry heat not humid. Maybe it could be the humidity....
