    Hey all,

I just bought a 2013 Tacoma without the backup camera installed. It is already prewired for a camera in the tailgate and plugged into a dummy camera. Added a pic of the wiring harness in the tailgate.

If I get the correct camera for this plug, would I be able to just plug it in and see camera video on my screen?

    few questions..

    1. Is the other end of the camera wiring plugged into my existing radio or is it just hanging somewhere in the dash?

    2. If not, would I have to get an oem radio with a camera input on it?

I know there are many options to add a backup camera but I just want to keep it stock.

Might be also missing the rearview mirror camera display...check the harness going to the it. Even if it's not connected (tapped up to harness)

It depends. My 14 has a 5 volt backup camera. It had a monitor on the HU. Some Tacomas had the video on the mirror. Modern HU use 12 volt cameras. :notsure:

That was another question. Is the camera on the 2013 in the radio screen or in the rearview mirror?

I’m in the same position right now -
I believe that it would display from the head unit if you’re able to find the right harness to plug into the head unit - possibly r17 on the head unit from what I’ve seen online - just don’t know where to plug that harness from the head unit to where …. There’s no spot on the inside fuse panel -
Also don’t know where to buy that harness

My 2013 sport has the backup camera in the rear view mirror. Hope this helps.

Pretty sure its a 6v in the mirror. There was a bunch of changing around between 09-15. Aka 09-11 were different than 12-15 and differences between HU and mirror outputs

my 2013 don't have the camera. it does have a harness into the dummy camera in the tailgate. just wondering if my head unit will support a camera. would not want the camera view in the mirror. would be too small for me. will send pic when i get home.

The view in my rear-view mirror is small, not clear and I basically use it to line my hitch up to my boat. The actual line shown is offset about 2-3 inches. I would like to have it on the LCD screen, but have not pursued it.

Mine is the same - my question is once i replace the dummy with a real camera - where does the harness plug into opposite the head unit - and where can I find that harness…. Not much detail online from what I’m seeing
