Well after doing some searching I only seem to be able to find how to do this mod when the camera displays only on the mirror. My taco is a 2014 so it's in the head unit. I'm curios if I can use the same method or if there is different wiring.

I also though(being a tech) if I dug into the shifter and found the switch for reverse I could wire it so that when I flip the switch the truck will think it's in reverse AND turn the back up lights on. I do some night time trail riding and having the reverse lights I with the camera would be sweet

Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
If you remove the lower dash, there is a connector to the left of the steering wheel close to the door gasket. This is where the reverse signal comes to that turns the backup camera on. I did all of this when I modified my 2013 mirror cam into my head unit. There is a little white jack and it is a small red wire. I would bet that there is a tutorial on YouTube about this.

The lower dash is easy to remove and the plug is easy to get to once the lower panel is removed. As far as enabling reverse lights, you would probably have to install a relay out back with a 12v source to power the bulbs, they're probably worth a few amps to light.
