so 4wp installed the 4” icon kit onto a 17 tacoma trd off road 4x4. we didnt notice the camera at all because we did not back up at all when we left. we find out later, it doesnt work.

is there any reason the backup cam wouldnt work after an install of a lift kit? of course 4wp denies everything.

i checked the reverse harness and fuses and all seems fine.

any clues with the info i have provided? might be vague, let me know what more is needed to identify this issue. thanks

Check the wiring going to the camera. Should enter the bottom of the tailgate on the passenger side.

thanks for the tips. for info, the reverse lights come on when shifted to reverse.

we dont know anyone with a tailgate we could use. if youre in the bay area, peninsula area, let me know if we can do the swap to test it. thanks

It would be a lot easier to just swap the camera, not the tailgate. You’d need to remove the inner tailgate panel to disconnect the camera wiring harness to swap the tailgate anyway. Once you do that it’s just two bolts to remove the camera from each one and hangtest them on the other truck.

Edit: Ignore this, as corrected below.

Seems you haven't removed a tailgate. Disconnecting the plug from both trucks and remove the tailgates is less work than all the screws on both tailgates...

Nice. Never noticed that connector down there and wondered why Toyota didn’t put one in to make it easier. I’ve only removed the tailgate once and just swung it to the side to get access to what I needed.

It seems pretty unlikely that the camera itself was damaged during a suspension swap. I don't see how exchanging tailgates is going to help you. I would crawl under the truck and look for a severed wire from the tailgate forward.
