I've considered using a modified tailgate handle with a key lock to mold a camera into it. There's really not a lot of space behind it where it mounts to the tailgate without cutting some metal.

Camera field of view is also an issue and most off the shelve cameras can't cover both ends of the bumper from where the handle is. OEM cameras with ultra wide FoV are very pricey and sometimes difficult to get signal to talk to generic analogue LCD screens, that's not to say it cant be done, just that complexity and future replacement costs if/when they break is also something to factor in.

I was experimenting putting camera into either one of the rear taillights with more generic hardware, but the project stalled because I needed to find a cheap single taillight to continue.

Interesting spot to put the screen. I imagine it could be problematic for some, depending on your height and where you like to keep your tilt steering wheel. I hear a lot of people say they can't see the clock, but at my height I can see it just fine. Or do you just kinda lean out to see it?

I haven't actually finished installing the camera, I figured it's a good out-of-sight location majority of the time, the camera is only needed when reversing slowly really close to other objects (parking/loading), which is why I wanted enough FoV to see both sides of the bumper.

For me I just need to move my head few inches to the right side over the steering wheel to see the screen.

Resurrecting this old post because I'm loving that S2K in the garage. Cheers to another Taco/S2K co-owner!

I want to know where to get that LCD screen surround for my 2002 Tacoma? That looks legit!

Is that custom plastic "key+screen" dash panel real? Or is that just something that was photoshopped? Doesn't show up on google, and the dimensions look off. The clock area doesn't look to be that wide.

Clock area is definitely not that big. It was custom fit for sure.
EDIT: But now that I look, it doesn't look like it was cut? Interesting.
