Hi. I bought a silver Toyota Tacoma Access Cab about a month ago and I want to become a member of your forum. I had bought a new 1979 Toyota 4x4 and loved it. Now and then I will have questions about the truck and I hope I can get help when I need it. I am attempting to install a back up camera and I need to wire into the reverse light in tail light. I need to know what color wire is for the power and what wire is the ground wire (I am assuming it is the green wire). There are five different color wires to chose from. I don't want to splice into the incorrect wire.

    Hey David,
Welcome to Tacoma World and congrats on the new rig.
Any auto parts store has a test light you can purchase for fairly cheap. You simply attach the test light ground clip to any solid ground (bare metal) and touch the tip of the test light to any wire end and it will light up and tell you which wire is hot. This goes for any wiring that you will need to conduct on cars and trucks safely. Just make sure you have a good ground for the test light or it will not work or light up for you. Also turn on the ignition to provide said wiring with actual power. Reverse would also have to be engaged to relay power to the reverse lights. Make sure if you have bare wire ends that are hot to keep them separated from the ones that are not or you will ground it out and pop a fuse.
-Or find the right wiring diagram for your rig and find the color you need on the diagram.

Tap into the one that goes to the reverse light bulb in the tail light.
