Can you define "strange noise" ? It's not uncommon that theres a little slop in the carrier bearing & still be good, is the rubber grommet torn or devoid of grease ?? need a little more info if ya can...

Easy to change. But as stated above whAt type of noise? May not be carrier bearing as the do have some play in them.

it sounds like when rubber is dried up and rubbing against somethin. the reason i believe its the carrier bearing is it has a pretty good amount of play in it. ima intern tech at a dealership so i put it on a lift and picked up the back tires up and put it in drive and it really started hollerin when i put the truck at about 1800 rpm. and the groument looks to have cracks in it but it was hard to tell
