The 6.7L Power Stroke motor takes 14 qts. of oil to fill to proper capacity. The older Power Strokes takes 15 qts .. anything more that you would like to add?

yup. 15 quarts times maybe $3 difference in price per quart, less than $50, again, there must be a whole lot of stupid Ford owners to pull this off....

What is the extra $100 for? Maybe it was a typo and you meant $47 more???

and then you subtract the price of conventional to come up with a net price bump for the switch...

just an example, conventional oil maybe $4 a quart, full syn maybe $7 a quart, 4 from 7 equals 3, 3 x 15 equals $45, who is ripping who off?

25 bucks for 5qt jug of Motorcraft 10w30 diesel conventional, and 50 bucks for a 5qt jug of synthetic 10w30.

I bought the truck at Ventura Toyota but they were not the ones I brought the truck to for the oil change. I have read some very bad reviews on Ventura Toyota on Yelp after I had my bad buying experience with them. Guess I should have read reviews first.

Learned recently that it's very helpful to go to Yelp first for anything from massage places to Tint shops.

I admit I was wrong. I got upset for feeling I was getting charged for something I had already paid for. I should have read the manual rather than trusting what my clueless salesperson told me. Lesson learned. I think I still have pent up anger issues about Ventura Toyota selling me a truck with a 3" scratch on the paint.

Rather than drive 15 minutes out of my way to apologies to the kid I dealt with, I will use my embarrassment from the incident motivate me to never, ever bring my truck to Toyota for service.

I've never been treated nicely by this dealership. In fact, I've only been treated rudely by their service department. Never a smile or a sincere thank you. And there sure are no deals to be had when it comes to servicing your vehicle there. I will spend my hard earned money at the smaller shops I know in town. There are a couple honest ones I know of that go out of their way for the customer.

IF you calculate out a 15 quart oil change for the power stroke you will find that conventional oil is usually charged out at about $1.50 or so per quart for specials. So a conventional oil change would cost $22.50 in oil. Synthetic for a diesel is a lot more than what it is for a standard engine. That synthetic is actually 15W40 for a diesel. At an average cost of $6.50 per quart, that is $97.50. So with markup I am not surprised to see that the Powerstroke is $147 more for a synthetic oil change.

Everyone knows that you can go to the store and buy your own oil for less than you pay for it at a service station. I still get confused as to why people seem to think that a service station is going to charge you the same price it would cost you to do it yourself. How are they going to stay in business? you think if I pay $40 for an alternator that I am going to SELL it for $40 to a customer?

6.7L Power Stroke takes 10w30, all the other PS motors indeed use 15w40

Last time I got a free oil change it was after we bought a new 03 Rodeo. They gave me a couple courtesy coupons with the car. I decided to try one out only because I happened to be in the area with a little time on my hands.

They said yes, we will honor the coupon but the "free" does not include a genuine Isuzu drain plug gasket. You will get off brand gasket unless you want to pay $9.95 for the Isuzu. (Conveniently, that was probably the average retail price for 5 quarts oil back then.)

I was like gasket? What the heck does it matter about the drain plug gasket? I've never replaced one before or since that day and never had a leak at the drain either.

Someone mentioned 4 oil changes. I just had my fourth done so I called Toyota. It is 5 not 4. I mentioned to the lady something about the syn vs. dino discussion. She sanpped right back that it is definitely dino. I mentioned that the service writer where I bought mine was unsure on the first change. I said I expected that out of a sales guy and she chuckled.

You don't really need to admit you're wrong here, everyone already knows.

You should really avoid the cowardly way out and apologize to the service person and service manager of the dealership you made an arse of yourself in.

You talk of honest shops that go out of their way for the customer. That honesty works both ways.

And as for your 3" scratch... as much as they should have caught that on out inspection to you; for the money these trucks cost, you should have did a better job on the once over yourself.

And just to be thorough.. did you bring the scratch to the attention of the dealership who sold you the truck? And how long after ownership did you notice.. maybe it happened after your drove it off the lot.

    Frank
