So we're going to replace the power steering pump with a new (reman) one because it's still whining excessively loudly.

Since then the bearing noise has gotten progressively worse. We've isolated it to behind the cover that conceals the water pump etc.

We believe it's either the fan clutch bearing or water pump, possibly. Hard to tell without getting in there.

That said... since the two things have started (power steering pump and bearing) my gas mileage has plummeted. And it's not due to winter gas either.

Normally I get around 100 miles per 1/4 tank hash mark. In winter it can get down to 85 or so. Since these issues has arised, I'm lucky to get 55 miles per hash mark. Obviously a significant drop off.

Do any of these have any bearing (no pun intended) on mpg? Or do I need to start trouble shooting something else?

No check engine light either FWIW

May not be exact same problem, but I've been getting an obnoxious sound from right around/just below my steering pump as well. It whines and reverberates really F-ing loud on turns a good portion of the time, and I can even get it to do it if I slightly turn the while stopped and in neutral. I'm pretty convinced I know what the problem is, I'll report back after i try a fix.

sure they do, these engines don't have a lot of power to begin with so anything that put even a little more drag on them will have an effect.
