Filled up my tank yesterday got about 15 miles my engine kept stalling when I was at a stop, would turn over okay (not like a starter issue) but it did this 5 times at consecutive red lights. The truck would restart but had to keep the engine RMP up to keep it from stalling. No check engine light or any lights came on but there was a little tap like feeling felt like it wanted to come out of first gear. It wasn't like stalling it out lol it was just a quiet no shake in stick ,truck stalled. This is my second manual tacoma first was 2008 never had anything like this before. If it's bad gas I don't want to run the rest of it through the engine so how do I get it out before going to the fuel pump or regulator? Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum. Doesn’t really sound like bad gas but stranger things have happened. 17’s weren’t part of the fuel pump recall but it could still have gone bad. Many auto parts stores have code readers so I’d try to see if your truck is showing a code before going to the dealership.

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

You didn't by chance "top off" the tank did you? That is putting more gas in after the nozzle clicked off.

It you did don't do that, it puts liquid fuel in the vapor recovery system and can lead to an expensive repair.

Could be bad gas, or an issue with your EVAP system. Charcoal canister purge solenoid going bad will make it idle like shit/stall when the tank is full.

I would check for codes, some take multiple occurrences to set the light, but will show as pending with a code reader. Auto parts stores have free code reading.

I wouldn't rule out anything, but I would start with bad gas as the most recent thing immediately proceeding the issue. I also note September 16th was the first day stations can sell winter fuel.

    Edit: Welcome to the forum!

The truck didn't give any codes I only put in half a tank. I'm going to try and drive it this afternoon to see if it will throw a code but concernedif it is bad gas putting more through my truck. I looked up recalls for my Vin and the only think that pulls up is a center high mounted stop lamp. The fuel pump recall is for 2018-2019

Throw a bottle of iso heat red bottle in it, and or some seafoam. See how it reacts to that. It will pinpoint it down to bad gas, or something else.

My 2018 was recalled for the Fuel Pump and replaced by Toyota under recall. You may want to check on your 2017.

fill up the rest of the tank with good gas. if it's bad gas, the good gas should dilute it enough so you can burn the tank without stalling. it will probably still run pretty crappy though. could also be a clutch issue.

Could be diesel mix up from the gas station as well. I've seen it happen.

17's are still prone to fuel pump failures outside of the recall. This doesnt sound like it.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
@V30FtFall What area are you in? Just get any rain? Possible the station had a water intrusion or something. I'd go talk to the station management. Might be others with similar complaints and you'll want to get in on the claim if there is one that happens.

IF you have a bunch of space in the tank, consider filling from a quality station like Chevron or Shell and I would also dump a container of Startron Marine treatment into the tank. We use that for our boats where the possibility for fuel pulling water into the tanks. It allows it to break down into the gasoline and the engine can safely burn it. The product can be had at Walmart in the marine section or the automotive section or many auto parts stores.

If you didn't get a code, you might need a higher level scan tool to pull codes for unlit warnings. Not sure if Autozone or similar has that level of scan tool.

My old truck ran like that in Death Valley, after the battery shook itself to death on a washboard road.
