I change at 5k for everything except my 65 Chevelle (3k), and 4 wheeler. Something that does surprise me is the oil in my 96 with 340k miles is cleaner than the 14 with 50k.

oddly enough the "quick lube" place I go to, told me a couple times that my oil was fine and it did not need changing and sent me on my way no charge, I think it changes from place to place...
I have been using synthetic since the toyocare ran out.

I still dont understand how ANYONE can tell if oil is good or bad just by looking at it.
Color tells you shit. Only a lab test will reveal the truth.

Just some reading about engine flushes by these quick lube places. I hope you actually didn’t get it done.

In short it does more harm than good. Engines and technology has come so far these vehicles are meant to go for 200k miles and more with just regular maintenance according to your manual.

I read one post in this thread regarding the milky/frothy foam look from the oil filler cap. The oil tech showed me this and assured there is moisture in the oil hence strongly suggested the “oil flush” to avoid damage to the engine.

I will say my work is about 6 miles away, so I actually do a handful of short trips. That being said, the engine is always warm by the time I get to work.

Also, I did see the oil from what he had on his hand in a sample...it was back; that’s why I don’t trust whatever garbage they put in there.

I just got back from the store buying 7qts of 0w-20 Mobil 1 for the wife’s highlander; this event has provoked me to start doing my oil changes next. Also I’m reading the Highlander oil change is typically $80-100 at the dealer since it’s 6-7 quarts fill synthetic.

I only put about 3k per year on my challenger, so that will be up after the Highlander and I’m considering putting in the one year formula in that vehicle.

Thanks all for the advice, I just need to do it on my own.

    YouTube is a wonderful thing.

Once you get comfortable doing it yourself (It's easy), look into the fumoto drain valve. They are the shit!

If you haven't burnt any bridges yet at the quick lube place, try to get what the engine flush is in writing. Unless of course they just performed two oil changes back to back (flushing), then I would be curious what they did to my engine.

Hooked it up to a machine that pumps a cleaner type fluid through the engine.

What I dont understand is this: Oil does a hell of a job cleaning our engines. It's designed to do this, so why have some tech pump God knows what through the block?!?

THis story is another example of how the world in general tries it best to take our money any which way it can. Either through lies or scare tactics, or both.

09 taco has had this milky froth since first oil change in cooler weather
why? because the moisture from the burnt fuel leaks past the ring gap into the engine internals and condenses on the cold oil cap

My 1995 F350 does the same thing with its extended filler neck

Quite simple really, if you can think. Ask them what they did to flush the engine, and get them to provide it on paper. Either in a quote format or in a receipt of work already performed.

One reason behind doing this is to have proof (paper copy) of work performed on his vehicle should anything arise later on down the road. It's called creating a paper trail. Up until this post I have never heard of an 'engine flush' so to be honest I had no idea it was a thing (I do my own oil changes)

If the op is not worried, then that's why I said an optional step.

First mistake was going to ANY quick lube. Most of the kids they have don't care and the managers are rated on how many "extra services" they sell. Don't know what you paid there, but I don't do my oil any more and watch for coupons from any Toyota dealer in my area as they have different coupons, and pay about $29. for a Toyota oil change and parts, plus get a free wash! I change mine every 5k. When I had a Dodge with a Cummins in it, I used Amzoil with their extra filter and changed about once a year with Blackstone oil analysis, engine would have lasted another 10 years, but truck rusted from bottom.......

    Oil looking bad?
If the oil is coming out of the drain plug in chunks or it looks milky you have a problem. Color is not an indication of bad oil.

The flush was only $12 bucks? Even that amount seems fishy!
