Washed my new 2013 Tacoma the other day and discovered something I had not noticed at the dealer before I bought the truck. The pictures can speak for themselves. Is this as uncommon as I feel it should be or is this typical for Tacomas? (this is my first Tacoma) How does this look compared to others? Its just the bottom six inches along both sides of the truck. ...and what would you guys do about this? :(

It's done on purpose. Acts to prevent rock chips and what not from scratching up your paint.

    Mine is the same.
Too bad the rest of the truck will scratch way too easy.

I thought the same thing when I first saw it on mine, then quickly realized what a good idea it was. Still miss the plastic on the bottom of my 2004 Grand Cherokee though. It was nice to just smack my boots against it to clean them while getting in the cab in the Winter, but I don't dare do that to my Tacoma.

I'm going to use that excuse when I get sliders because we sure don't have many rocks or mountains in Iowa! :D

not the first truck I've had that was like this, my buddie's f150 too and my ranger had something similar in certain areas, you wont notice it and will be glad its there, however though the rest of the paint chips very easily, if you live in a humid, coastal, or snow/salt state I would invest in some touch up paint and perhaps rust proofing. Was a nightmare/shock when I moved here from AZ to NJ how quickly rust develops even in the summer.

Hey, that's normal. It's to prevent rocks from chipping the rocker panels.

That is known as "orange peel" not extra protection. No manufacture really takes the time to color sand the bottom half of the paint aka mass production. Any body shop or really good detailer can easily get rid of this.

This forum is for people to ask questions about their truck. He had a question about his truck, he asked it, what's the big deal? It's nothing to get worked up over.
