Bad Paint

Bought a 24 Black Limited a couple of weeks ago,love the truck but paint is terrible on it.Put a $2,000 non refundable deposit on it and drove 5 hrs to Elgin ILL to pick it up.Upon looking at it voiced my concerns to salesman and he said that the paint was acceptable.Got the truck home and really looked it over the next day in full sun and the doors almost seem flat compared to rest of truck,no depth to paint.Brought it to a paint correction place and they told me the truck would probably have to be wet sanded.Should have never bought the truck!

 

Not to beat you up, as that is a lousy situation, but there are a couple of lessons learned here for everyone else as well:

Non-refundable deposit - 1st issue
Listening to salesperson's opinion on a vehicle they're trying to sell (especially at a dealer you'll never return to) - 2nd issue
Must be willing to walk away - 3rd issue (tied to first issue, but still, probably worth ditching $2k and the time than having a vehicle you resent already)

 

i would get some 2nd opinions elsewhere. wet sanding on a brand new vehicle doesn’t sound normal to me…

I'm also wondering now if this would be covered under warranty? If it's an actual paint failure.

Certainly not if a paint shop touches it first, though.

Just a heads up. A deposit is always refundable at a dealership. Don’t let them fool you

 

Dealerships are the one of the few businesses where they can flat out lie to you and somehow get away with it.

 

Get a written opinion by two paint/body shops on what's exactly wrong with it, take those to your local dealer, open a case with Toyotacare.

And not to beat on the "shoulda-coulda" drum, but in the future, never accept delivery on any good or service if you have issue with it. You always have that right.

 

I love Toyota, but sometimes they have issues with paint.

My dad bought a first year model of the second gen Colorado of all things. Crazy man.

Chevy eventually worked it out for him, but that thing had crazy transmission shift logic even worse than the 3G Taco (would actually get into 5th or something at 20 mph and lug like a kid learning stick).

 

My dad bought a Ford Taurus when they first came out. Ended up threatening to sue Ford to get them to take it back (they did).

Of the doors do you ? Because that’s normal

 

#15 and #16, is it the same black as before? Haven't payed much attention to that. Did they call it the same as the old, rename but still same makeup, or actually have a new mix of a color? I thought they like to make new exciting color names with the new gens... kind of like Microsoft coming out with a new OS which just made the buttons rounder... and slower

 

Could be the doors were damaged during delivery and they repainted them at the dealership

 

Hence the reason for a sunny daylight inspection of a vehicle you plan yo buy. Long test drive an inspection are important. If something is off, walk.

 

If a dealer said a 2k deposit is non refundable i'd leave immediately.
