Yeah I was all set to buy a car once but the car had a weird smell inside it dealership promised me it would go away after a couple days ... I walked.

On the other hand I took delivery of a car checked it out everywhere and I came home and the first thing I noticed was a dent in the door it's really hard to catch everything just so many things to inpect, you really need a couple people.

Subaru did a number on my wife a few years back. Our dealership located a Forester in the color she wanted 200 miles away in Michigan. When it was delivered, she didn't wait for me to get off work and picked it up herself. New car, right? What could be wrong? When I pulled into the driveway and saw it for the first time the rear tailgate and rear quarter were full of dings and they left a half ass tape line in full view when the damaged area was repainted. Both dealerships denied responsibility and we were told it was my wife's responsibility to inspect the car.
We spent the better part of a year fighting with Subaru and just let the car sit never driving it. Finally after lawyers got involved Subaru finally sent someone out and they took the car back and gave us another car which we only kept a few months because of braking issues with the antilock brakes. The damaged car we were told was damaged when someone was spinning gravel in the storage lot in Michigan. The second dealership never inspected the car before driving it back. We defiantly did not feel the love.

The guy with the messed-up paint should fight and take it to Toyota directly. Even Toyota corporate will try to get out of it if you let them. I really wish Tacoma World could be a force to get the point across. Maybe send Toyota the links like this one so they can see what is being said about them and knowing we number in the thousands and buy their products. I like my Tacoma and won't sell it but if I had seen this website before I bought my truck I would be driving a Honda Ridgeline right now instead.

It's against the law for dealerships to have non-refundable deposits. So this is bs.

    For future reference:

Never give a non-refundable deposit to a car salesman.

Never take delivery of a $55k Tacoma w/o a full daylight inspection.

And most importantly….Never, ever offer up a post complaining about paint w/o a pic to support it.

The prior years black was metallic, at least some were. The 24 black is not, but if you look up the paint code they've probably used it on other models Im guessing.

Mine doesn't have metallic. Just plain black with clearcoat over it. I went to the dealer the year after I bought the truck for oil change, I went to look at new models, they have metallic paint.

Been in the automotive industry for 35 years, I call BS on an non refundable deposit on a truck youre not purchasing.
I was going to buy a 23 & salesman said $500 fully refundable deposit to reserve a allocated truck...
When I reserved my 24 at the same dealer with a different salesman, no deposit required to reserve truck.
While I was waiting for the truck, I was haggling with other dealers trying to negotiate a better deal & they also wanted deposits, all refundable.
& still, it was only $500 deposit to show youre serious...

Since the pandemic theres been more flaws in paint across all makes, not just toyota.
Ide like to see a pic as really hard to believe that the paint looks flat.
I actually had like 6 spots on my driver side rear door where it was obvious there was debris in the paint, turns out it was just on the surface & dealership bodyshop on the premises was able to color / wet sand it out with $2k grit under warranty "factory defect"
End of the day dealership made it right...
I was freaking-out as last thing I wanted was panel to be repainted on a new truck, I expressed that to the sales manager before they touched it. That pretty much went in one ear & out the other, They had to start somewhere & I wasnt getting a new door off the assembly line.....
But it was a no win situation. They had to attempt to color sand & see what happens. If it blew through the base coat, they would have to repaint.
but didnt have to go there thankfully
Thats where ide be all over-it to corporate.

Pics suck, best I could do, but you get the point.
I found 3 on that door, painter that did the correction said he found 3 others within that panel so total of 6
Before I went to the toyota dealer I went to my previous employer "ford" collision center & had my guy 40 years in the industry all at that collision center evaluate the situation & confirm what I was thinking. Last thing you want is having to paint the panel.
My guy also stated he's seen similar issues in ford paint as of recent.
Ill be honest, toyota paint was my biggest hesitation. Ford paint is much better quality.
Toyota tacoma paint is crap, very thin & not a very thick coat of clear. You see 5 year old tacomas all over san diego with oxidized & faded hoods & roofs, theyre everywhere....

Is that the better or worse of the 2???
Gal on the phone at the dealer bodyshop, said its a regular occurrence, not just tacos, various models, imperfections / dirt in paint..

What im blown away about is, it took me 2 weeks to see them...
Lighting had to be right. but couldnt unseen them once I was aware.

OP's first post was to complain about a 2k deposit and "bad paint" 5 days ago. And no follow ups. I call Troll. BS posts. Mods should lock it.

agree, he will never post pics so maybe we can learn something, or possibly he can learn that he's over reacting...
