I bought my 2005 DCSB OR TRD Prerunner 3 months ago. I knew it had some oxidation with the paint, but didn't know it was that bad. Here in the SW we don't get much rain. This year our monsoons have been pretty good. Most of August and the first half of September brought us rain.

Now I have noticed that the roof had some scratches in the paint and the rain/heat has caused the paint to peel up. Then with all the rain I've noticed some minor surface rust.

Is the best fix for this to get the roof repainted? Would it be cheaper if I do all the prep myself?

If you decide to get it painted post how much it costed to get it done, please. I'm in a similar situation, although my paint fade is TINY compared to yours!

I'm looking to getting my hood resprayed for sure, and possibly the roof. I'm in Arizona and can agree that the sun will do a number on any paint job...

Definitely cheaper if you prep yourself.

Before I noticed the peel and rust I was going to white derp the hood. One reason was to slow down the oxidation, the other would be an attempt to help keep the cab cooler by having the lighter colored hood.

I'm to going get quotes this week.

If you did all those yourself, I'd definitely consider Rhinolining the roof on that sucker rather than blowing the $$ on a repaint...More durable. I did it with one of our old jeeps because the GF was constantly dropping the nose of her kayak on the roof.
Of course, if you didn't put them there, then that's a horse of a different color.
