It would never be me, because in 35+ years, I have done all my maintenance/repair work. I would forget about it and move on.

Oil is supposed to be a 0 20 which is only synthetic. Owners manual says you can substitute with a 5w-20 for one oil change as long as you switch back to 0w-20 on next change. Not sure why dealer would not carry the oil that is required.

I mentioned before that I did remove everything of any value. However, a sign refusing responsibility doesn't give anyone the right to dig through everything.

Again my frustration was someone going through every compartment and leaving the contents all over the place. I added the minor things to paint the whole picture of how annoying the experience was.

I have to think the dealer used the right oil but either wrote the wrong miles on next oil change sticker or listed the next 5K service. The paperwork listed the correct oil but the sticker is inconsistent.

The only reason I could think of would be if they were looking for a wheel lock....but either way, I hate when they do that.

I would have rather had that, than someone smoking in my truck on my 5K mile service.

He’s something I thought of. Maybe there was a thief roaming the service lot and went thru the truck while it was parked, there are so many people roaming the lots now a days no one would really notice. Then the porter just brought it up when told to. Just food for thought.

I work at a dealer (BMW) as a Service Advisor and my techs are required by Insurance (and BMW, actually..) to road test a car a mile when the wheels come off. If we do brakes, rotate tires, replace tires, etc or any time the wheels are off, we put a mile or two on it. When we are audited by BMW every year, they look for out mileages on repair orders and back flag us if it is not documented when they know the wheels have been off of the car.

I can see that previous tech's point with all of these complaints. Geez. You leave your vehicle up front and they have to get it back to the shop, car wash and back to the front somehow. Add in a quick drive to make sure they didn't fuck anything up - 1.5 miles added seems modest. I'd rather they mess with my seat and mirrors than swipe a vehicle cause they couldn't see it. The gas mileage decrease is probably from spending some time idling moving from customer, to porter, to tech, back to porter, back to customer. Shit, I lose .1 mpg sitting at a red light. 5K is a typical service interval, they don't change the oil every service.

As far as rooting through your stuff, I mean, you're giving them your vehicle to service/fix and you have personal effects tucked in every compartment, something is probably going to get moved. If nothing was missing, I doubt there was malicious intent.

I'm not a fan of dealer service departments, but I didn't find much fault with the OP other than things not being put back. Not very courteous but also not something I would take as a direct sign they are fucking with you.

That is a very strong possibility. One time I had my truck in for service and the Ford lot is right next door. I walked over to see if they had the Ranger yet. It was early, about 8:30 a.m., and not one person came out to see me. I walked the whole lot, including the back area where the service vehicles were, and never did a tech, porter, salesperson, or manager ask if I needed help.

    You answered with.............

In the short term I'd find the general manager and tell your tale, and that you would not be back. Even for warranty work.

AND that you will tell everyone you know not to use that dealership.

I had a similar incident with the mpg thing. Dealer had my truck for about 4 days to add paint protection, which a courier had to drive my truck to the business that installs the paint protection. My mpg had dropped from 17mpg down to around 12mpg. The ONLY way that would happen is because obviously the asshole who drove it was smashing the gas pedal to the floor everywhere he drove. I filed a complaint and I’m waiting to see what happens. The truck had less than 500 miles on it when the guy decided it was a race truck for him to rag on.

Do you have locking lugs? They may have been looking for the key if so.

According to our manual, my 2017 Tacoma has recommend maintenance every 5,000mi. I think they simply have a "oil sticker" to use a a reminder for the 5k mark.

Did you log the odometer at dropoff/pickup? Just playing devils advocate, engine idling drops the mpg meter rapid quick. Sometimes Ive dropped from 20.0 to 19.0 just sitting in the Whataburger drive-through.

This times a million. The world tends to think of you as a shitty employee if you don't leave your worksite clean at the end of the day. Doesn't matter if its a customers car, a construction site, or a desk, always clean up after yourself and keep your workspace tidy. Its a core part of that "take pride in your job" mantra.

Always man ! It was driven about 15 miles. I mark my oil filters , bolts and all kinds of stuff with a paint pen too. Not my first rodeo and I don’t trust anyone. ( former Indy shop mechanic) One of my coworkers always had “extra” parts after fixing stuff and he’d beat the hell out of anything he test drove.

Fair. 15 mi is on the excessive side to be driven from the lot to the paint booth. I'd probably complain too.
