How can I tell if my shock went bad, I know to look for leaking and it seems like it could be but its not a fast leak if it is. also there is oil on the top half of the shock and its pretty spread thin so in mot sure if maybe it just got sprayed by something and it looks like oil or what. I will post photos later today.

Sometime shocks can be very difficult to determine if they are bad in the early stages. Since the truck is under warranty take it into the dealer and have them look at it.

I was thinking about it, I just dont want to leave it there all day for them to say its fine. also my local dealer likes to say nothing is wrong until you come in with pretty severe damage. I was just hoping to have some info to back it up.

looks like road grime, there would be oil on the backside not the side facing the moving air.

Remove the shock, slide the boot off, clean the shock up real good, compress the shock with rod end down and examine.

Real super easy to remove and you don't even need to jack the truck up.
