you people are talking about MPG, my Tacoma has a K and N cold air intake and performance exhaust. I am getting 23 mpg on the highway, If you are thinking about buying a ecoboost you are going to have nothing but problems in the future becausce of all that extra piping..

Have fun cleaning your MAF next year .

I think you're being generous with your MPG. I had seen 23 mpg occasionally before I S/C, but my exhaust and intake destroyed that.

BTW a 5.7 L Tundra gets the shittiest mileage out of all the trucks on the market. Another location of our company was just force to dump all of theirs, including a new 2014, due to the exceptionally high costs to operate the truck. That power plant is old and the gearing is not optimal for fuel economy. My location will not allow us to buy Tundra's due to there high initial costs and high operational costs.

BTW run synthetic in the Ecoboost. Talking with other operations guys within my company it seems like the F150's that die young had conventional oil in them. It makes sense, there's a reason why 90% of manufactures that have high performance boosted motors require synthetic oil changes.[/QUOTE]

That is one of the reasons I stayed away from the Tundra. Plus, the truck just looks goofy to me. :crapstorm: Don't hate me, just my opinion. I'll admit the '14 looks better but it's just not for me. Now don't get me wrong, there are days where I miss my Tacoma. It was easier to park when mall crawling and and is still the best looking midsize truck on the market. And the argument could be made its the best looking truck on the road but it's dated. Hopefully the '16 will be a fresh truck but knowing what Toyota has done in the past, i.e the Camry, Corolla and even our beloved Tacoma, I'm not sure they are willing to push the envelope very far.

And +1 on using synthetic oil in the ecoboost.

My opinion is that over time, you're putting extra stress on a small engine that has been turbocharged to make up for the power. If you live in a state that has actual seasons and gets cold, it will affect the longevity of the turbo. Also talking about the boost, in a gas engine, it puts more compression into play. i just feel that it's an idea to have the fuel mileage the company needs to make govt standards at the cost of the consumer.

Toyota doesn't use the public as Beta testers like the domestic companies do. If Toyota puts it out there it's been well tested and is capable of 300Kmi.

My understanding of that is because the Tundra doesn't depreciate like Ford, Chevys and Rams. That's why businesses run them in their fleet - so they can write off the a large chunk of yearly depreciation by purchasing one of the big 3.

Actually all companies "write off" depreciation (in Canada anyways) as a percentage of the trucks original value. You can also "write off" the lease payment, which is often greater. I think that's what you're getting at. The last time I checked an order sheet that had a Tundra on it the lease cost was nearly the same, so no dice on getting more write off from a big 3 truck. At least not in Canada.

The only time depreciation comes into play is when you sell the truck. If you claim more writeoff than what the truck actually depreciated to according to the schedule you can suffer a capital gain. However, since most fleets are leased, this rarely happens. Actually, even we when buy our trucks they are usually so shit kicked we just sell them to customers who need a beater somewhere in there operation for much less than the truck blackbooks for.

The Tundra consumes too much gas and the models aren't tuned towards business needs. Until Toyota those two things they will stay a minor player in the full sized market. I think Toyota is happy making the number 4 selling pickup, I realistically don't see them changing this truck to sell to businesses better anytime soon.

Yeah, you clearly know more about this than I do. I think your statement above pretty much nails it though.

not even gonna read the rest of this thread. why, because i had the same thought when i traded my 09 tacoma for a 2014 f150, more truck for less money. now 11 months later i traded the f150 for a jeep jk.. had i just spent the extra bit of cash i would have been quite happy to have simply upgraded from my reg cab 4x4 to a v6 access cab 4x4 taco... if you wheel you will hate the ford. it is a street truck or work truck kinda truck. comfy on the hwy, a fat pig in the city and trails.

    ... ^^^ ... This ...and wait and get a 2016 Aluminum body.

IF you have the hots for a 150. Look at the 2016 models. I test drove a 2016 F-150 several months ago when the Ford Factory Caravan came to Atlanta ... nice truck ... (LOVE the aluminum body) ... but the truck is too big for me.

FYI ... The Platinum that I drove had a MSRP of about $55k with automatic retracting running boards (that I don't need).

PS ... I don't think that you can get the 5.0 in a Platinum though. The seasoned, out-timer dealer salesman (secretly agreed with me) ... he liked the 5.0 better too. I looked hard at them ... but it is too big for me ... LOVE that aluminum body and that will be a giant hit, when bugs are out of it. It was about 700 lbs lighter too.

If available and IF I wanted a F-150, I would have gotten a reg. cab, short bed with a 5.0 ... not sure if you can get that though in a 2016.

Good luck in whatever you do and keep us posted on how you like your truck IF you get it. And don't be intimidated by the "Toyota Fanboy Bullies". I love Toyota more than anyone here (IMO) and I like to see ALL trucks compared here with info shared here as that is ... HOW WE MAKE TOYOTAS BETTER ... better competition makes better Toyotas. ... :D

Did OP pull the trigger on the trade? Looks wise the Ford F150 Raptor is something nice.

But after driving this...No Thank you Ford. I know these trucks are probably night and day but Ford left a bad taste with me. But as a work truck I had very little choice as the Gov't would not buy Tacos.

I drove a 2016 Aluminum F-150 5.0 and the Eco-Boost a couple months ago when the Ford factory caravan came through...liked the 5.0 better.
I liked the Aluminum F-150, but it was too big for me.

Cant remember how to add a pic to this post, but that photo (me sitting in a 2016 aluminum F-150 after driving it) was posted in the "What Everybody Looks Like" maybe a month ago.

Maybe somebody knows how to copy and paste that photo it here ?? ....

Nice truck, love the aluminum body (production still needs some tweaking), but the F-150 is too big for my needs.

An aluminum Tacoma would be the super neat and I would buy one in a heartbeat.

    .
Forgot, I just answered this thread a few lines up ... just realized that ... must be the sleeping meds again ... :anonymous:

.... Photo of me below after 2nd test drive (2016 F-150 with Aluminum body) ... notice smile on face .... :D

Just a quick FYI, ppl on here are saying this manufacturer is more American than that one. I work for the "other American/Japanese manufacturer here in the US. Without going into details part of my job is to keep the parts ordered and make sure they hit the production line when they need them. If you notice, North American parts content DOES NOT mean US parts content. But i will add though ford parts for the new f150 do come in from south of the border. I think you all get what im saying there. Toyota does have 87% of there parts manufactured in the states with Honda coming in at 84%. As far as the others i have no clue because they are not considered direct competition for us.... Thats my .02 worth... Do like to add though, i love my tacoma!!!

I've had a few full-size trucks thru the years, the only "bad experience" I had was with an '01 Dodge. V8 F150's are good trucks, but since I didn't want/need a huge truck this time, I went with my all-time favorite "mid-size"...;)

I stopped at a local Ford store this weekend and looked at several F150's with bluTaco parked nearby. To me they are not porpotioned correctly. They are huge! Oversized consoles between oversized seats inside of oversized doors and body panels. When I turned back to BluTaco it looked small at first but then just right. Probably more what I am used to but I just think the Tacoma is very well proportioned. But one thing about the F150 that I did like is the amazing number of ways it can be configured/optioned. One of the benefits of selling a gazzilion of them.
