I am praying you see my reply… where did things go with yours?

I am dealing with this with our 2016 Tacoma, and the dealership seems to be at a complete lost as to how to fix it. I’ve insisted Toyota be contacted and their mechanic told the dealership “this is just how Tacoma’s drive.” I said this was an insult to my intelligence. If Tacoma’s just drove like this no one would drive them. It’s dangerous and has almost caused 3 accidents for myself.

Looking to see what your end results were. Thanks!

This is a very interesting thread. I have just over 150k on mine and am having problems. They diagnosed a problem and a quote for 5K, but the transmission is on back order without a lead time. So, it would appear that a large number of people have been having with a problem. I was sure to check my transmission fluid level and it always read OK. I brought it in thinking that i needed a transmission flush, but they did a diagnostic first and said that it didn't need a flush. (I don't think one has ever been done.)

When I punch it, the transmission seems to shift better. But the truck has been shaking so bad, the dash is starting to rattle.

    I'm less than impressed.

I just roll 187K on my 2016 TRD SPORT 4WD / DCSB / AUTOMATIC. At about a 150k miles it started to experience torque converter noise ( howling; no slipping) did a flush and new filter (2 filters, one before flush and another 500mi later. ). Completely solved issues.

At 170k, the trans pump started ticking like crazy and would hard shift or slip ( mostly from 2nd to 3rd) . Performed another flush and filter change it all went away. I noticed though, at this time, the fluid was extremely black, likely wear on the clutch.
Here I am at a 187K, pump start the same noise and within a day or two of starting to notice the noise, the transmission completely went out. no gears will engage. Took it to the transmission shop, and they basically said, this one is done. They're recommending either a rebuild or replacement. However, i've experiencing the safe issue with backwarded transmissions from toyota until mid to late february.

Now i'm not here complating very much about the transmission. She's been great for me. I've taken this truck all over the US, one time was a four thousand mile road trip up to utah, to play at moab and back down texas. It's definitely got it's buddy's worth, I believe at this point. Not too much towing miles on it, a little bit here and there, but mostly four wheeling and typical driving and highway miles.

I'm considering going the rebuild route and hopefully can get a few more years out of this truck until she becomes a true "toy" truck. At that point who knows what's will happen to it haha. Lets just say I won't be worried about the OEM transmission at that point.

    Cheers!
