I've had several Ford trucks (Rangers, F-150s, an Explorer and an Expedition). I never had a problem with any of them... until it came time to trade them in! I like Fords, but like all Domestics, they depreciate like crazy. You want to trump your buddy? Show him a KBB or NADA. Look up 3 year old Tacomas and 3 year old F-150s. If he hasn't seen the light yet, have him call his "friends" at the dealership where he bought it and ask them what they will give him for a trade in. It's simple math for me... Resale is a big part of cost of ownership. I plan on keeping mine until 2018 (10 years), but if I need to trade it in, I'm glad it's not a Ford.

I remember when I was young and insecure.

The only solace I can offer is that in the real world, no one gives a fuck what size engine you have other than people insecure about the size of their "engine".

4.0L is a big fucking V6. Many V8s clock in at 4.x Liters. It's not the number of cylinders that matter, it's displacement. There are massive diesel engines producing a bajillion HP/torque on only two or four (big) cylinders.

Let 'em rant. I don't need anyone else's approval on anything.

Show him your report card because that's the only thing that REALLY matters in HS. Unless your grades suck, of course.

My advice is don't be so insecure about stuff like this. Next thing you know, you'll be telling him that your dad could beat up his dad, LOL.

The 09 F-150's are nice trucks and so are the 09 Taco's. They also both serve different needs. What's so hard about talking about that and why each of them are good for your particular situation? Life is too short to get into pissing matches about stupid stuff like "my truck is better than yours". Who freaking cares.

Just let it go theres nothing you can say to a die hard ford/chevy guy thats gonna make him change his mind. People like what they like and most have die hard brand loyalty regardless of what happens or what you have to say.
