Shouldnt be as hard as it has been. Butni also have a mix of old and new sockets and extensions that dont mix and match well haha. Even with adapters i was having trouble getting something together to get me around all the crap in the way. Will figure it out.

Actually, I hope the install goes well for you and it fixes the problem.

The new one should go in easier than the old one coming out. I don't recall the tensioner ever getting in my way and with the battery out there should be plenty of free space to get a breaker bar in there...at least that's how I got mine done.

The tensioner and belt made it hard to keep the socket on the bolt. Any pressure and it would slip off.
I got a new breaker bar with a ratchet on it. The combination of both breaker bars made it pretty easy.

That explains it...I always pull the belt off when I need to get to the bolts on the alternator.

I didnt realize it was also the belt until the last time i moved the tensioner out of the way but yeah i was thinking about that last night.. if i had moved the belt there would have been room. I was super frustrated the day before. I have small hands and that was still a lot of fiddling around.
I wont have the new one until noon. It should be disgustingly humid here by then. I'll just have to keep thinking about how this saves me a mortgage payment worth of labour while i'm sweatin to put it back in.

Last time i did this was on a 79 Volare. There was so much room under the hood the alternator had it's own postal code. I think it took about 15 min total to swap.

All done! Just waiting for the battery charge. Much easier going in through the wheel well.

Strange that since this was done the truck is running much better, lower rpms and better gas mileage.
