    I voted NO.

The auto makers need to figure out how to save their own asses in terms of financials. They've been riding too high for too long and now they don't know how to handle a crisis. Suck it up and deal with it. Other auto makers are dealing with it just fine.

The only thing that worries me about NOT bailing them out, is JOBS. If the government doesn't bail them out, lots & lots of people are going to lose their jobs. That isn't something anyone wants to see happen. It's not fun for people to lose their jobs. What's the comparison in unemployment benefits versus the cost to bail them out?

Hey if there is a bailout approved, I hope that they give Toyota, Honda, and Nissan the money to buy GM, Ford and Chrysler.

but is it fair that we would have to pay for the stupidity of a car company by having our taxes increased?? i think not.

Well if the big 3 fell it would increase the demand on Honda & Toyota and with them now having plants in the US they would have to higher more people to keep up with demand. It might not be a 1:1 job loss job gain but it would help

Chapter 11 is not closing the doors. It gives them the ability to get out of ALL binding contracts. It also allows the government to take over the pension fund - which is guaranteed.

Chapter 11 is the best thing for the big 3. they can redo the union contracts to something more reasonable. Also, the union has to go for it or ALL of the workers will be out of a job.

I'm told there are 3.5 million jobs that hinge on the Big 3. That will create some serious problems.

Exactly. The bailout is like putting a band aid on a severed arm. Bankruptcy will address the real issues like union and dealership contracts that are destroying the U.S. automakers. They need to stop concentrating on market share and start focusing on profitability.

Good point. A bailout is a method of prolonging misery.

that's part of the problem. I bet a lot of those jobs are union jobs. Most of those workers probably make way too much for the company to afford them.

i so no bailouts for anyone.... although it would really hurt our already limping economy if they were to all go under..... so i dont agree with it but at the same time not bailing them out could hurt us pretty bad too

I don't understand what's with the Big 3 and Unions. In Canada the Auto Workers Union (Big 3 only) act's like god but Toyota and Honda have absolutely no problems being non unionized.

Reorganation is what they need and bankruptcy may be the anwswer! Im not sure giving them money will help but, it may give them FAT-CEO's a -FAT bonus that will allow them to live out there life among the rich and famous. Build a better product and I will buy-but I sure like my Toyota Tacoma.

what those big corporates need is to handle the problems themselves, a child doesn't learn how to walk if you keep grabbing him by the arms.... let them fall and get back on their own....

Our country will never recover as long as we continue to give free handouts to anybody who whines and complains. Those CEO's who are getting a bailout check need to have their golden retirement packages, & their annual bonuses taken away for running those businesses into the ground. Oh Yeah, I voted "NO"! Learn to make a decent product!

I have heard the 3.5 million number is inflated. They are adding in people like an accountant that works for a company that works for someone who sells to one of the big 3. I am sure that is not the accountants only account. They might be affected, but it will be slight.
