Mak sure the brake is set right or you're gonna have a bad time! And keep your thumb on the line any time it's released. You can apply pressure or stop it suddenly to prevent over spool. Bass season is right around the corner, tight lines!

I taught myself to use a baitcaster in the backyard with a half ounce weight tied on. Start off with your brakes set pretty strong and work your way down as you get more comfortable.

That reel have a magnet brake?

I learned early. Then my brother got a boat. No need to whip it out there from a boat. My skills are probably suspect now.

A good way to learn and save line is to pull about 50 yds of line off the reel, place a strip of electrical tape on the spool, then reel the line over the tape. So when you backlash (and you will backlash a lot) it wont be deep in the spool, only up to the tape. Search youtube on reel setup also.

I have this on everyone I have.
I do a nice comfortable cast and add 10 feet and add tape.helps keep the rest of the spool tight also..

Bait caster reels oh joy! keep your thumb on the reel don't let it spin free or a tangle it will be, take a second pole otherwise your going to loose a whole lot of time untangling that mangled line.

I use to hate the bait caster reels because I would put too light of a line on them like the 4 Lbs size spider wire type then I found out that 6 to 8 Lbs is better for the bait casters and give less problems with tangling up so easy.

nice tip! I need to try one. I had one years ago but it was a cheapo and long before Youtube.

bring a second pole because after you snap the first one and throw it in the lake you'll need a second;) just kidding I wont throw one in the lake no matter what. I did almost break(thought about it really hard) one of my poles after I missed a huge bass a few years back;)

I had a Pole break when I had a trout (I'm not going to Hold my hands out to show How Big it was) on the Line I kept the Reel but I did throw that pole.... that was the last 2 piece pole I ever purchased.
